What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bioinformatician, CompBio Core position at MDI Biological Laboratory?
The Bioinformatician will work with the CGDS Core team and our research partners to develop, debug, and maintain genomic analysis pipelines. He/she will also meet frequently with the research groups and the CGDS Core director in support of ongoing collaborations.
The Working Environment
The CGDS Core supports the research groups at MDIBL, as well as the broader Maine INBRE research community, following best practices in robust, rigorous, and reproducible genomic data analysis, with growing efforts in image analysis. MDIBL hosts multiple annual courses and workshops, both in person and online. The CGDS Core contributes in these courses to incorporate computational analysis in an appropriate and engaging manner.
Our research collaborators use several model and non-model organisms, including zebrafish, fruit fly, killifish, nematode, and axolotl. Research studies and questions of interest fit into MDIBL’s research focus at the intersection of aging, stress response, wound healing/regeneration, along with the impact of environmental factors.
The successful candidate will be self-motivated and disciplined, with the ability to organize and complete work across several research projects and experimental systems simultaneously. The ideal candidate for this position will be on-site, but we will consider hybrid configurations.
