What are the responsibilities and job description for the Weekend and Holiday Aquaculture Technician, Animal Core position at MDI Biological Laboratory?
Are you passionate about aquaculture and animal care? We’re looking for a Weekend & Holiday Aquaculture Technician to take on an essential role in maintaining the health and well-being of our aquatic species. This part-time, year-round position is perfect for someone who enjoys hands-on work, values animal welfare, and thrives in an independent setting.
Once trained, you will be solely responsible for the facility every weekend and 13 holidays throughout the year, working independently. Dependability is absolutely critical—this role ensures the well-being of our animals and the smooth operation of our facility during these times.
Beyond animal care, you’ll be involved in facility upkeep—cleaning and sanitizing equipment, checking filtration systems, managing inventory, and preparing essential solutions. While this position is largely independent, you’ll be an integral part of a dedicated team committed to high standards of research and animal welfare.
We’re looking for someone with a strong background or education in biology, aquaculture, or a related field, with at least some experience in animal husbandry. A keen eye for detail, a willingness to learn, and the ability to work on your feet for extended periods are all essential. If you’re ready to take on a meaningful role in a research-driven environment and don’t mind rolling up your sleeves, we’d love to hear from you.
