Sr. Linux System Administrator
Location New York, NY, Local and W2 or Self Incorporated, only candidates
Duration: 6 Months (Right to hire)
Seeking a Senior System Administrator to join our Infrastructure Operations team. In this role, you will take a leading position in managing our Linux estate, VMware environment, on-prem Kubernetes clusters, and cloud- based resources.
The ideal candidate has substantial expertise (5 years) in Linux administration and VMware, as well as strong proficiency in Python, shell scripting, and Terraform. Experience with configuration management tools such as SaltStack or Ansible is highly desirable.
Responsibilities:
Linux Administration:
- Oversee and optimize our Linux systems infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot complex Linux system issues and implement effective solutions.
- Create and maintain automation scripts using Python and shell to streamline operational processes.
VMware Management:
- Maintain and enhance our VMware environment, including ESXi hosts and vCenter.
- Implement best practices for virtualization, high availability, and disaster recovery.
- Monitor and tune performance to ensure an efficient virtual infrastructure.
Infrastructure as Code & Automation:
- Use Terraform to provision and manage infrastructure across on-prem and cloud environments.
- Develop and maintain automation playbooks, scripts, and templates.
- Collaborate with development teams to integrate automated workflows into CI/CD pipelines.
Storage Management:
- Administer and support both block and file storage solutions.
- Ensure data integrity, availability, and security across storage systems.
- Coordinate with vendors and cross-functional teams to resolve complex storage-related issues.
Kubernetes & Cloud Operations:
- Maintain on-prem Kubernetes clusters, ensuring reliability and scalability.
- Deploy and manage containerized applications in production environments.
- Work with cloud service providers to manage resources, optimize costs, and ensure system reliability.
Monitoring & Security:
- Implement monitoring solutions and conduct regular system health checks.
- Ensure compliance with security standards and best practices.
- Proactively identify and remediate potential vulnerabilities.
Collaboration & Leadership:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams (e.g., DevOps, Networking, Security) to deliver robust solutions.
- Mentor junior administrators and share knowledge of best practices.
- Participate in after-hours on-call rotations and respond to critical incidents.
Qualifications:
- 5 years of hands-on Linux administration experience in enterprise environments.
- 5 years of VMware administration (ESXi, vCenter, vSphere).
- Strong scripting abilities in Python and shell scripting (Bash, etc.).
- Experience with Terraform (Infrastructure as Code).
- Proven track record of managing complex infrastructure projects from concept to completion.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills, with the ability to analyze logs, identify root causes, and implement fixes.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with SaltStack or Ansible for configuration management.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, etc.).
- Exposure to containerization and orchestration beyond Kubernetes (Docker, Helm, etc.).
- Knowledge of networking fundamentals and security best practices.
