Key Responsibilities
- Work with the Yard Manager to direct and manage yard operations including hiring, yard structure, yard layout, procedures, processes, and performance.
- Monitor building, vehicles, and grounds to ensure all security and safety measures are being followed to protect Company investments.
- Develop and implement plans to improve the efficiency of yard operations.
- Schedule the yard receiving staff based on the anticipated workload, time of year, etc., and monitor on a daily basis.
- Ensure that the receiving staff understand the basics of receiving stock and special-order material for the yard including location, quality and quantity checking and paper flow.
- Establish lines of communication and cross training with other yard areas to that when the yard receiving staff is slow or other areas are short, we work as a team to fill all Company and customer needs.
- Work with the Yard Manager and Receiving coordinator to manage the receiving process including processing, paper flow, and material flow in the most efficient manner possible.
- Work with the sales force, yard, and all other departments in establishing material quality and inventory level standards that best suit the needs of the Company and its customers.
- Develop policies and procedures regarding the types and quantities of materials to keep in inventory.
- Establish relationships and place orders with only those suppliers that meet select criteria including quality, efficient delivery, and competitive pricing.
- Work with the Mead Lumber Purchasing Department, General Manger, and Yard Manager in establishing the correct inventory levels and efficient storage of stock materials.
- Be the main contact at the branch for all outages, quality issues, future large quantity supply needs in all areas.
- Responsible for making all inventory adjustments as necessary.
- Responsible for monitoring and adjusting the non-moving inventory list and make determination of what needs to be closed out.
- Work with the Accounting department in administration and monitor the cycle counting and the year-end inventory process.
- Work closely with the management team to ensure all operational, administrative, and compliance functions within the Company and are being properly executed in accordance with industry-based best practices.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience required
- Ability to recommend changes to drive business objectives.
- Ability to assess situations to determine the importance, urgency, and risks, making clear decisions which are timely and in the best interests of the organization.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of proprietary information.
- Desire to learn and grow in a professional manner.
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
