Curriculum Coordinator - Secondary

JOB SUMMARY:

As a teacher on special assignment with the Learning & Teaching Department, a curriculum coordinator leads district adoption processes, facilitates teams of teachers and administrators in Professional Learning Communities, and trains staff for deep implementation of our multi-tiered systems of support. Specific job duties will be reviewed annually to ensure alignment to current needs and initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist district administrators and adoption teams through the process of interpreting and applying standards, mapping curriculum, piloting materials, and choosing new instructional materials as part of the district curriculum adoption process
  • Work with building and district teacher leadership teams to create a guaranteed and viable curriculum
  • Assist professional learning communities and teams in answering the four critical questions for improving student learning
  • Train learning team leaders to facilitate effective professional learning throughout the district.
  • Develop professional learning community facilitators to lead their teams
  • Participate in a variety of in-district and out-of-district professional learning opportunities
  • Provide evidence of program growth and effectiveness with documentation and meeting notes.
  • Facilitate safe and effective professional conversations
  • Reflect on the practices of the Learning & Teaching Department initiatives to continuously improve
  • Serve as a lead facilitator for the BEST mentor program.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of program progress and development.
  • Provide a safe, positive, and effective environment that reflects and facilitates learning for teachers in meetings, professional development, and discussions.
  • Document meetings and progress thereof in alignment with Learning & Teaching initiatives.
  • Self-reflect and evaluate the effectiveness of professional learning performance to identify areas of strengths and weaknesses and adjust accordingly to reach maximum effectiveness.
  • Carry out other tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate endorsements as required by laws and regulations.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships and rapport with a wide range of teachers and administrators throughout the district
  • Ability to effectively facilitate professional learning teams as part of an effective implementation of Professional Learning Communities.
  • Model and train learning teams to be more effective and self-managed
  • Commitment to Mead School District and Learning & Teaching initiatives
  • Deep understanding of Multi-Tiered Support Systems to address gaps and improve learning for all students
  • Ability to assist teams in using data to improve student learning outcomes
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating professional learning
  • Proficiency in communicating effectively with individuals and groups in a professional manner
  • Commitment to continuous professional learning aligned to district initiatives
  • Familiarity and experience with digital learning tools

DESIRED CRITERIA:

  • Experience facilitating learning teams at the elementary and/or secondary level
  • Deep understanding of the essential elements of Professional Learning Communities
  • Experience leading adoption processes

A person working in this position will exert 35 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly while carrying, pushing, and/or pulling to move objects. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; some stooping, kneeling, and/or crouching; and significant fine finger dexterity. The employee may also be required to work at elevated heights and climb ladders. The job is performed under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or ordinary infectious diseases carried by students.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT and Salary:

As outlined by and in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) of Mead Education Association (MEA) and Policies and Procedures of Mead School District. The 2025-26 salary range for teachers in the Mead School District is between $57,877 and $117,314 per school year. Placement is defined within the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and is generally based upon a combination of Education and Experience. Other forms of compensation may be available to the hired applicant in addition to their established salary range or wage scale as defined within the current collective bargaining agreement (CBA).

Each employee shall accumulate twelve (12) days of sick leave per year. An employee employed less than a full term shall be entitled to a proportionate part of the sick leave allowance Each employee shall earn five (5) annual leave days per year. Employees less than 1.0 FTE will receive a prorated share of annual leave based on their percentage of FTE.

Employees anticipated to work more than 630 hours per year will be eligible for Benefits through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) Standard benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, and Long-Term Disability. Positions anticipated to work 70 hours or more per month for at least 5 months over the school year are eligible for Retirement through the State Department of Retirement Services.
