POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Project Director, the After School Program Counselors will work 3pm-6/6:30pm, Monday through Friday at the YMCA 21st CCLC Moonachie site and will ensure the successful delivery of the after school program. Working closely with the Program Director and Site Director, she/he will work collaboratively with the school staff team and volunteers to implement an appropriate daily schedule that advances the program goals.
21st CCLC PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The 21st Century Community Learning Center After School & Summer Program at Robert L. Craig School (grades 3-8) offers intensive academic STEAM opportunities that emphasize a joy of learning, cooperation and focused effort. These programs build on school day experiences and support students’ growth as scholars, athletes and citizens while improving academic achievement and enhancing social development. Family engagement and adult education are also central to all 21st Century programming, as our efforts as educators are enhanced by well-informed parents and guardians.
These 21st Century programs are results-oriented. All programming is focused on improving students’ academic knowledge, skills and testing performance, social skills (e.g. leadership, cooperation) and community connections by making learning relevant to current and future opportunities. 21st Century programs strive to increase family involvement in the educational process through special events and adult education. All programs rely on a multitude of staff, including qualified out of school educators, school teachers, faculty, college students, community volunteers all who may serve as tutors, mentors and specialty course leaders.
Qualifications
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITY:
YOUTH DEVELOPER - After School Program Counselors build strong relationships with their students, serving as positive mentors and role models by encouraging the joy of learning, cooperation, focused effort and developing students’ leadership ability. After School Program Counselors work closely with families, teachers, and community members in support of student achievement and growth.
YOUTH LEADER- By using clear, consistent learning procedures, engaging activities, lesson plans, effective engagement strategies and appropriate management practices, After School Program Counselors create a safe, positive learning environment that appreciates each unique student and celebrates their accomplishments. After School Program Counselors are academic coaches who motivate students to succeed by leading and teaching students through varied learning environments and experiences.
COMMUNITY BUILDER – After School Program Counselors create new learning opportunities by making community connections, serving as a professional and reliable bridge between the school and the broader community. This may involve recruiting homework help tutors, setting up field trips, or encouraging citizens to volunteer by teaching a specialty course about their profession or hobby
