The Assistant Teacher will assists the Director/Head Teacher/Lead Teacher to plan, develop, implement, supervise and evaluate the Center's child development program, and maintains classroom and joint-use space
The position of Assistant Teacher shall be a part-time, non-exempt position.
Must be able to work weekday shifts from Full Time: 9:30am - 6:30pm and/or Part Time: 1:00pm-6:30pm.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provides a safe environment to prevent and reduce injuries.
- Promotes good health and nutrition and provides an environment that contributes to the prevention of illness.
- Uses space, relationships, materials and routines as resources for constructing an interesting, secure, and enjoyable environment that encourages play, exploration and learning.
- Provides a variety of equipment, activities, and opportunities to promote the physical development of children.
- Provides activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem solving appropriate to the development levels and learning styles of children.
- Actively communicates with children; provides opportunities and support for children to understand, acquire and use verbal and nonverbal means of communicating.
- Provides opportunities that stimulate children to play with sound, rhythm, language, materials, space, and ideas in individual ways and to express their creative abilities.
- Provides physical and emotional security for each child and helps each child to know, accept, and take pride in himself or herself and to develop a sense of independence.
- Helps each child feel accepted in the group, helps children learn and practice appropriate and acceptable behaviors as individuals and as a group.
- Provides a supportive environment in which children can begin to learn and practice appropriate and acceptable behaviors as individuals and as a group.
- Maintains an open, friendly, and cooperative relationship with each child's family; encourages involvement in the program; supports the child's relationship with his or her family. Greets parents who are entering or leaving the room.
- Uses all available resources to ensure an effective operation; is a competent organizer, planner, record keeper, communicator, and a cooperative co-worker.
- Makes decisions based on knowledge of early childhood theories and practices, promotes quality childcare serves, and takes advantage of opportunities to improve competence.
- Willing to work with all age groups, willing to change classrooms as needed to meet staffing requirements.
PRIMARY JOB PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work closely with the Lead Teacher in developing, planning, implementing, supervising and evaluating a developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities.
- Plan and supervise small-group activities under the supervision and guidance of the Lead Teacher.
- Respond to individual children and small groups while keeping in mind the needs of the larger group.
- Provide a positive role model for children by cleaning up before and after meals and snacks.
- Keep information about children and families confidential.
- Perform routine housekeeping duties in the classroom as requested by the Lead Teacher.
- All other miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
- The ability to understand and support the education program using "learning through play" philosophy;
- The ability to interact closely with children at their level;
- The ability to keep children within sight and sound supervision at all times;
- The ability to change children's diapers and/or assist in toileting (where necessary);
- The ability to communicate effectively and professionally with school personnel, children and parents;
- The ability to handle crisis situations, including assisting in evacuating the building during emergencies; and the ability to comply in all respects with all applicable laws and regulations relating to childcare.
Salary : $14 - $16
