General Purpose:
Under general supervision, provides comprehensive speech therapy and language development services to a specified population of residents. Screens and evaluates residents; develops and implements therapeutic speech and language development program and services.
Essential Job Functions:
This facility expects their employees to promote an atmosphere of teamwork with other employees and hospitality and comfort for its residents. Therefore, the following list of duties is not all-inclusive:
- Examines, tests, diagnoses, and administers treatments for residents with speech and language disorders, hearing disorders, and oral motor disorders.
- Performs evaluations with particular attention to receptive and expressive language skills, speech fluency, vocal and oral motor competence, articulation, and auditory skills.
- Maintains communication with the resident and others concerned regarding progress, problems, home programs, and other issues related to the therapeutic process.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates therapeutic speech and language development programs and services.
- Provides speech articulation therapy and works with residents to develop language skills as appropriate.
- Facilitates behavior management in residents and families as appropriate to the needs of the resident.
- Maintains records of work performed.
- Maintains equipment and supplies used as part of the therapeutic process.
- Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
- Attend in-service education programs in order to meet facility educational requirements.
- Be familiar with Standard Precautions, Exposure Control Plan, Fire Drill and Evacuation Procedures and know how to use the information.
- Maintain confidentiality of resident and facility records/information.
- Protect residents from neglect, mistreatment, and abuse.
- Protect the personal property of the residents of the facility.
- Others as directed by the supervisor or administrator.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors of Science Degree in Speech Therapy
- Current license in state of practice.
- Minimum of one year of experience. Supervision, training and/or experience in a setting serving the same age/type of resident population served by this facility.
- Certification, if applicable, and demonstrated competency in identified areas of specialization.
- Organized and detailed in work performance.
- Good communication skills with excellent self-discipline and patience.
- Genuine caring for and interest in elderly and disabled people in a nursing facility.
- Comply with the Residents’ Rights and Facility Policies and Procedures.
- Perform work tasks within the physical demand requirements as outlined below.
