Job Summary

Provide instruction and special education support to individuals with disabilities including specific learning disabilities, mild to moderate intellectual disabilities, other health impairments, serious emotional disturbance, and authorizes service in grades TK-8th.

TEACHER -SPECIAL EDUCATION

EDUCATIONALLY HANDICAPPED / LEARNING DISABILITIES GROUP

Brief Description of Position : The ability to work as part of a team, to work collaboratively with all grade levels K-8, and to participate inschool planning and improvement activities is desired for all candidates. The successful candidate providesa supportive academic and social program for students with disabilities. Position is under the immediatedirection of the school principal.

Terms of Service : 185 contract days of which 180 are student school days. Staff development days in addition to contractdays may be required, as per teacher contract.

Major Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Teaches students with disabilities through a Learning Center approach, which includes students whoare designated for either the Special Day Class or Resource Specialist Program.
  • Provides the basic learning skills and other subject matter commensurate with the emotional, physical,and intellectual needs of the pupil as designated by Individual Educational Plan (IEP).
  • Provides individualized and / or small group instruction that parallels regular classroom curriculum.
  • Confers frequently with parents and professional staff members on each pupil's progress.
  • Provides an appropriate physical and psychological environment to establish and reinforce acceptablepupil behavior, attitude, social skills and self-image.
  • Coordinates with staff for the integration of pupils into regular classes for instruction in areas where thepupils can meet success (mainstreaming).
  • Supervises assigned paraprofessional instructional assistants.
  • Performs other duties as directed by the Site Administrator and the District Superintendent.
  • Stays current on special education issues and policies.
  • Engage in best practices to meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities
  • Other Duties :
  • Serves as a member of the Student Study Team, as needed, to support students, teachers and parentto understand learning disabilities and to modify the regular program to meet student needs.
  • Serves as a member of the IEP Team for admission, placement and evaluation of pupils in classes forthe educationally handicapped.
  • Provides continual supervision on an "On Call" basis for pupils assigned to his / her group as problemsituations arise elsewhere in the school.
  • Performs all other functions performed by regular classroom teachers.Qualifications : ? Holds an Appropriate Preliminary or Clear Teaching Credential.
  • Teacher candidates participating in a state-approved internship program will also be considered.
  • CLAD or SDAIE / ELD Certification or program participation is required for all teaching positions.
  • Ability to be designated as "Highly Qualified" Ability to communicate in Spanish is desired
  • Fingerprint clearance by the Department of Justice
  • Drug and alcohol testing may be required.Working Conditions :
  • Classroom and outdoor environments, including outdoor playground duties

Requirements / Qualifications

POSITION REQUIREMENTS :

Must hold a Valid California credential issued by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing authorizing service as a special education teacher in the above position.

In addition, must hold or qualify for appropriate certification to service ELL students.

Teacher candidates participating or eligible to participate in a state approved teacher credential program will also be considered.

Education :

Bachelor's Degree, including all courses needed to meet credential requirements.
