Meals on Wheels People is an organization founded in and by the community! Over the past 50 years, our non-profit has helped thousands of older adults in the Portland Metro area keep their independence through weekly meal delivery and social connections. Our culture reflects our five values: integrity, commitment, respect, inclusion, creativity, and TEAMWORK. With over 20 meal delivery centers throughout Multnomah, Washington, and Clark counties, our staff and thousands of volunteers ensure that no adult over 60 goes hungry or experiences social isolation.
Meals on Wheels People is looking for an unpaid intern to help with the primary responsibilities:
Community Engagement:
- Participate in community events, fairs, and meetings to represent the organization and promote its mission.
- Develop and implement outreach strategies to reach specific target audiences.
- Distribute promotional materials, such as flyers, posters, and social media content.
- Assist with planning and executing MOWP outreach events.
- Network with local organizations, businesses, and community leaders to build partnerships.
- Conduct surveys and gather feedback from community members.
Data Collection and Management:
- Assist with data entry and reporting related to outreach activities.
- Maintain accurate records of community interactions and engagement efforts.
Communication and Outreach:
- Develop and maintain relationships with community partners and stakeholders.
- Respond to inquiries and provide information about programs and services.
- Support social media efforts by creating content and managing online presence.
- Assist with writing and editing materials for community outreach.
Volunteer Support:
- Assist with recruiting, training, and managing outreach volunteers.
- Support volunteer activities and events.
Qualifications
Education:
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant field of study, such as communications, marketing, social work, or a related field.
Skills:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
- Organizational and time management skills.
Passion for community engagement and making a difference.
Experience:
- Previous experience in community outreach, event planning, or related fields is a plus.
- Experience working with diverse populations and communities.
Other:
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation may be required.
