The Diner provides an opportunity for older adults to enjoy nutritious, affordable, or donated meals in an atmosphere that is also appealing to families and people of every age and generation. The vision of Meals on Wheels People is that no senior will go hungry or experience social isolation. The Diner serves delicious, local, fresh, made-from-scratch comfort food and strives to bring a wonderful dining experience to the community. The Diner is open for breakfast and lunch, five days a week. General Summary
The Server is responsible for greeting guests, taking food and drink orders, and delivering food items to customers. They will ensure that guests have an enjoyable dining experience by providing excellent customer service, maintaining high production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards. They will work alongside participants of an on-the-job training program and will be expected to mentor and guide these participants when necessary. This position includes medical, dental, vision, and other benefits and is compensated with an additional $7.00 per hour for weekend hours.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
- Take orders, prepare, pick up, and serve food from the kitchen
- Ensure compliance with sanitation, safety, and food regulations following health department standards and Food Service Manual
- Prepare tables for opening and maintain side work before, during, and after service
- Attend to customers upon entrance and leaving the Diner
- Present menus and help customers select food/beverages
- Collaborate with other diner servers, bussers, hosts, and kitchen staff
- Respond efficiently and accurately to customer complaints
- May be asked to work overtime
- This position will be required to work on weekends
- Attend all scheduled employee meetings and bring suggestions for improvement.
- Support the mission, goals, and objectives of Meals on Wheels People, Inc.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education & Knowledge
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required; Associate Degree or certification in Culinary Arts preferred
- Current Food Handler’s card or ability to obtain one upon hire
- Current ServSafe certification or ability to obtain certification within 18 months of hire
- Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal food sanitation standards
Skills, Abilities & Experience
- COVID 19 vaccination required or approved waiver from Human Resources
- Proven customer service skills
- Able to work in a fast-paced and team-based environment
- Ability to multitask and problem solve when necessary
- Experience working with diverse populations, including aging, minority, and low-income populations
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Proven recordkeeping and organizational skills
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs and 20-30lbs repetitively
- Passion for serving seniors in our community
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
Fast-paced dining environment, with significant people interaction. Ability to lift a minimum of 50lbs and 20-30lbs repetitively. Frequent reaching, bending, stooping, and grasping. Regular use of POS and dining equipment. Must pass a drug test and criminal background check.
* Due to the nature of The Diner’s mission, all tips customers leave will be donated to Meals on Wheels People nutrition and service programs, paying staff benefits, and an inflated wage. All staff must agree to these terms before hiring.
Salary : $7 - $17
