Overview
The mission of Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island is to meet the nutritional and social needs of the elderly to help them maintain their independence. Since 1969, from Westerly to Woonsocket our staff and volunteers have served 1,500 meals each day. While the Home-Delivered Meal Program is the most recognized service. As a part of our strategic plan, additional programming and initiatives have been added to further the organization's impact.
Meals is a federally funded research project that focuses on delivering an enhanced version of the Home Delivered Meals Program (HDMP) where a research team from local universities will evaluate the impact and sustainability of its services on older adults' health and well-being. In addition to the home delivered meals, this enhanced approach includes community health workers interactions and supplemental healthy grocery bags to address diet quality, food and nutrition security, loneliness, and health-related quality of life compared to clients only receiving home delivered meals.
Summary
The Delivery Driver supports the implementation of Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island's Meals research project. This includes but is not limited to delivering food bags and other ACL products to the research participants statewide, shopping for food bag items, organizing the food pantry and packing the food bags in compliance with the research project's guidelines.
This is a part-time position; with a total of 10 hours a week needed, Mondays and Fridays between 9am-2pm, hours and days may vary based on the needs of the project
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Use Meals on Wheels of RI delivery vehicle for research-related deliveries
- Pack food bags according to content list when needed
- Prepare food bags for dispatch and ensure accuracy for statewide delivery
- Deliver food bags and other research information statewide
- Adhere to the Employee Handbook and Driver Rules & Regulations
- Attend team meetings and special events when necessary
- Other duties as assigned
