AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE MECHANIC
Walk-Ins Welcomed Pay is based on experience
SHIFT: SUN - THURS 7:30am - 4pm
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:Under supervision of the Shop Manager, performs routine and preventative maintenance procedures on Company owned vehicles including late model cars and passenger vans.
TYPICAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Examines the vehicle and discusses with supervisor or other mechanics the nature and extent of service needed.
- Checks all fluid levels and compares with specifications to ensure proper levels.
- Plans work procedure, using charts, technical manuals, computers and experience.
- Raises vehicle, using hydraulic jack or hoist, to gain access to mechanical units or parts attached to underside of vehicle.
- Drains fluids including oil, transmission, differential, radiator, etc. into appropriate receptacles using hand tools to remove plugs, caps, etc.
- Cleans units if required. Installs replacement parts such as oil, fuel, transmission, differential, radiator, etc. into appropriate receptacles using hand tools to remove plugs, caps, windshield wipers, bulbs and lenses.
- Refills radiator using proper mixtures of water and antifreeze. Refills crankcase, transmission, differential, etc. with appropriate fluids to recommended levels.
- Replaces and adjusts headlights.
- Lubes vehicle using lube gun.
- Replaces grease fittings as needed.
- Performs multi-point safety checks such as checking tire tread depth and uneven wear.
- Accurately and timely completes check lists and other related paperwork.
- Test-drives vehicle to ensure work orders and assigned maintenance tasks have been properly and safely completed.
- May be required to perform other related duties as requested.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education: No formal education required.
Experience: Minimum two years’ experience in the field of Automotive Service Maintenance.
Skill at: Inspecting, diagnosing, and replacing parts.
Knowledge of: Use and care of automotive tools, equipment, computers and machinery; and safe work practices.
Licenses: Valid Florida driver’s license with a good driving record for test-driving vehicles.
Special Requirements: Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age. Must have own hand tools. Must be able to work flexible hours.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Must be able to obtain access of any component on the vehicle with the vehicle in any position.
- Must be able to use body members and/or tools or work aids to work, move, guide or place objects or materials onto or into vehicle to accomplish maintenance tasks.
- Must be able to exercise considerable judgment in the selection and adjustment of appropriate tools, objects or materials to accomplish these tasks.
- Must be able to sustain a work load consisting of exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally (occurring up to 1/3 of the time), and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently (occurring 1/3 to 2/3 of the time), and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly (occurring 2/3 or more of the time) to carry objects.
- Must be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written and computer schedule form.
- Must be able to comprehend and perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, ratios and percentages. Also, must be able to calculate surfaces, volumes, weights and measures.
- Must be able to read and comprehend safety rules, instructions in the use of shop tools and equipment, repair manuals, computers and methods and procedures in mechanical drawing and layout work.
- Must be able to calibrate, monitor, and utilize test equipment and machines, and inspect various components of the vehicle.
- Must be able to communicate in clear fluent English with drivers, other mechanics, parts counterpersons, vendors, co-workers and other persons.
Salary : $20 - $22
