Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Production Manager to oversee all operations related to the slaughter and meat processing activities within the plant. This role is responsible for ensuring production efficiency, product quality, regulatory compliance, and maintaining a safe working environment. The manager will also lead a team of supervisors and workers, manage production schedules, and optimize resources to meet production targets while adhering to industry standards and company policies. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the policy and procedures of a meat processing plant.
Key Responsibilities:
- Production Oversight: Supervise daily slaughter and meat processing operations, ensuring the efficient and timely production of meat products.
- Quality Control: Monitor and ensure adherence to product quality standards, ensuring meat products meet regulatory and customer specifications.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all processes comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including food safety standards (e.g., USDA, FDA).
- Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and motivate production staff, ensuring adequate staffing levels and performance.
- Safety Management: Oversee workplace safety programs and ensure a safe working environment for all employees. Implement safety policies and train employees on best practices.
- Production Scheduling: Plan, prioritize, and allocate resources to meet production goals, including managing labor, equipment, and raw material requirements.
- Process Improvement: Identify areas for operational improvements, implement efficiency measures, and reduce waste or downtime.
- Inventory Control: Oversee the management of raw materials, finished goods, and by-products to ensure proper stock levels and minimize waste.
- Equipment Maintenance: Ensure machinery and equipment are properly maintained and operational, working closely with maintenance for repairs or upgrades.
- Reporting: Provide regular reports on production metrics, costs, inventory, and quality control results to management.
- Budget Management: Assist with budget development and monitor production costs to ensure budget compliance.
- Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with other departments such as sales, logistics, and procurement to ensure smooth operations and effective communication.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in meat processing or related industry, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of meat processing, quality control standards, and food safety regulations.
- Proven ability to manage and lead a team effectively.
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with budget management and cost control.
- Strong understanding of USDA regulations, HACCP, and food safety practices.
- Proficiency in production planning, scheduling, and reporting software.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in a noisy, cold, and sometimes physically demanding environment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods.
