What are the responsibilities and job description for the Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) or Clinical Fellow (CF) position at MECA Therapies LLC?
MECA Therapies, LLC is looking for a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) or Clinical Fellow (CF) to join our professional team.
MECA Therapies is the largest pediatric rehabilitation provider in the state of New Mexico. Our mission is to strive everyday towards ensuring that our families and their children have access to the highest quality of care in the communities we serve.
The Speech Language Pathologist Provides speech therapy services to include evaluation and treatment to children birth to three with diagnosed conditions. These services will be conducted within a variety of environments in home and community settings.

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE:
- Master's degree in Communication Disorders
- Licensure from the NM Board Speech, Language Pathology, Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensers Board
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Knowledge and experience in the field of Communication Disorders
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Windows
- Proficient organizational and record keeping skills
- Effective oral and written communication

- Ability to train clients, family members and professionals

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The SLP will operate within Local, State and Federal Regulations as well as adhere to all MECA policies and procedures. Essential duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Administering standardized assessment tests within their professional scope of practice
- Developing appropriate and thorough recommendations
- Presenting diagnostic findings completely and accurately
- Writing evaluation reports with technical accuracy
- Seeking out appropriate information from medical and/or other resources as needed to implement treatment strategies
- Developing theoretically sound plans describing objectives and procedures for treatment
- Selecting appropriate stimulus materials and treatment modalities for age and ability of the person served
- Giving clear concise instructions in presenting materials and/or techniques in therapy
- Recording and tracking daily progress accurately
- Utilizing time in session efficiently to meet objectives
- Providing accurate and immediate feedback to the client and/or family
- Planning for discharge of the person served
- Participating in the interview process for prospective employees as deemed necessary
- Attending Transdisciplinary Team Approach (TTA) meetings, IFSP’s, Periodic Reviews, Annual Reviews and Transition meetings as required
- Fulfilling Team Lead duties for a select number of children on assigned caseload
CASELOAD ASSIGNMENTS
The SLP-CF will be assigned a weekly caseload from the respective program directors for each program they serve by:
- Carrying a caseload of 27 clients per week, equating to 1252 direct therapy visits per year or part time equivalent.
- Providing services according to the child’s IFSP
- Adjustments to caseloads/clinic hours are made in collaboration with the respective program director(s)
- Caseload adjustments in regard to clients and direct client contact hours may be adjusted in accordance to the following:
- Providing Supervision for students or other therapists
- Completion of additional evaluations
- Caseload adjustments in regard to clients and direct client contact hours may be adjusted in accordance to the following:
PRODUCTIVITY
The SLP-CF will achieve the expected 90% productivity performance goal set by MECA Management.
DOCUMENTATION
The SLP-CF will accurately collect data on persons served and will ensure that the information is accurate and filed in a timely manner by adhering to the following:
- Document therapy sessions and progress
- FIT documentation to occur at the time of visit, to be submitted daily.
- Any therapist needing additional time beyond their regularly scheduled time must contact the Director for approval.
- Completing progress notes with team at 6-month review
- Documenting TTCM meetings
- Completing FIT evaluations within 3 business days. Any therapist needing additional time beyond their regularly scheduled time must contact the Director for approval.
STAFF DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING
The SLP-CF will provide the necessary support, training, and guidance in their provision of services to the persons served. The SLP-CF must also comply with all mandatory trainings identified by their licensing board as well trainings mandated by their respective supervisor(s) and/or company by adhering to the following:
- Including the family/caregivers in setting treatment goals and training families on specific treatment strategies and carryover skills for the client/patient
- Consulting and providing in-house trainings to other staff members
- Maintaining appropriate licensure through the NM licensing board
- Attending mandatory staff meetings and trainings
SUPERVISION
Certified SLPs may be asked to provide supervision for SLP, SLP-CF, ASL and /or Student Interns/Observers. Supervision will be provided according to the MECA SLP supervision guidelines AND ASHA requirements.
- Providing Supervision to an ASL, Student or Intern/Observer as assigned
- Under no circumstances can a SLP-CF participate in any supervisory role.

The SLP-CF will maintain quality services for the persons served by adhering to the following:
- Ensuring person served has a clear understanding of their rights
- Acknowledging and respecting the rights of persons served at all times
- Ensuring all therapy and related activities are ethical and in compliance with MECA policies and procedures
