POSITION SUMMARY
Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is excited to add a dynamic and innovative Natural Resources Manager to the team! This position will provide leadership to the Natural Resource team and direct the development of a comprehensive natural resources program, ensuring all activities are integrated into the department’s Master Plan and the overall County strategic plan. The incumbent will be responsible for the natural community management of over 8,000 acres at 26 nature preserve facilities within Mecklenburg County, as well as providing support for natural areas throughout the 20,000 acre parks department. This includes but is not limited to habitat restoration, habitat management, natural resource data collection, property management activities. Additionally, this position will have oversight of property reviews documenting natural resources, input into facility development plans, natural surface trail design and construction and supporting nature-based programming in the Division’s nature centers will be required. The preferred candidate will be comfortable working with diverse groups within the Department, as well as fostering relationships with community interest groups, professional organizations, and other governmental entities. Applicants must be comfortable in outdoor settings year-round as significant time will be spent in wooded, natural settings of nature preserves where wildlife is a valued and protected resource.
Division Information : The Natural Resources team is one of three groups within the Division of Nature Preserves and Natural Resources – the other two being Nature Preserve Operations and Environmental Education. The three groups work closely together to ensure that nature-based programming, land management, science-based decision making, capital investment and planning and long-range planning strike a balance between conservation and public use. This position will report directly to the Nature Preserves and Natural Resources Division Director.

- Completion of Fireline Safety Training and NC Certified Burner Training
