Position Summary

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is excited to add Temporary Recreation Assistants to the team! These positions will assist with the planning and operations of summer day camps for kids and/or teens at Marion Diehl Recreation Center. This position will provide direct supervision of campers and assist in planning and directing camp activities, such as swimming, games arts & crafts, etc. Additionally, these positions will participate in overall customer service operations and will regularly provide information to visitors regarding our service and programs. The dates of this temporary employment opportunity will include a mandatory orientation, staff training and Summer Camp (May 28th - September 12, 2025).

Essential Functions

  • Provide customer service and handling of funds in a recreation center or park facility through telephone, emails, web site, social media and walk in patrons and customers for information, program registration, center daily use and rentals
  • Ensure safety of participants/spectators and administer first aid when necessary
  • Enforce rules and regulations
  • Collect fees and taking registrations for recreational programs and facility rentals
  • Assist in light maintenance of facilities and recreational areas
  • Referee at various sports activities; provide services as timekeeper, scorekeeper or lineperson at games
  • Assist with various recreational programs for all ages
  • Handle inquiries and complaints from public
  • Assist with special events and field trips

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: No experience required.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent

Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted?: N/A

Licenses and Certifications: Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License and County Driving Privileges; CPR/First Aid

Computer Skills: General knowledge of various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite
