Overview
The Vice President of Accounting is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the accounting department, ensuring all financial activities align with the credit union's objectives and regulatory requirements. This role includes managing resources, supporting staff, and ensuring the timely and accurate completion of departmental responsibilities. The VP of Accounting plays a key role in financial planning, reporting, and compliance.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage the daily operations of the accounting department, ensuring efficiency and accuracy in all processes and workflows.
- Provide guidance and support to staff, resolving operational challenges and reallocating resources as needed to meet deadlines.
- Train, mentor, and evaluate team members to foster professional growth and maintain high performance standards.
- Participate in the hiring process, including interviewing candidates, recommending promotions or transfers, and advising on salary adjustments.
- Collaborate with the President to develop and implement short-term and long-term financial strategies, aligning departmental goals with organizational objectives.
- Prepare and manage the department's budget, ensuring financial goals are achieved and cost objectives are met.
- Oversee the preparation and maintenance of financial, statistical, and accounting records for the credit union.
- Accurately complete and submit the NCUA 5300 Call Report in compliance with regulatory requirements and deadlines.
- Work closely with auditors and examiners during year-end and comprehensive audits, ensuring compliance and the accuracy of all financial data.
Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- Proven experience in accounting or financial management, with a strong understanding of credit union operations.
- Expertise in preparing the NCUA 5300 Call Report and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to mentor and develop staff.
- Proficiency in financial planning, budgeting, and analysis.
- Exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with audit processes and regulatory compliance within the credit union industry.
