- Position SummaryWith direct supervision and training, performs simple and routine laboratory procedures and tests. Collects, processes and relays specimens. Serves as receptionist and performs laboratory-related clerical duties associated with the requisitioning and reporting system of the Medical Center’s Laboratory department.
- Minimum Qualifications
- No previous experience necessary.
- Vocational training specific for laboratory required. Training must include at least 6 hours of vital signs, 6 hours of injections (IM, Subdermal, Intradermal), and 6 hours of venipuncture.

- Performs veinpunctures, capillary collections, swabs, urine or other specimen collection methods.
- Gives injections (IM, subcutaneous and intradermal).
- Aids medical assistants with rooming patients, checking and recording vital signs and documenting patient history.
- Cleans, maintains and performs quality controls on equipment utilized.
- Documents procedures completed and medications or supplies given.
- Completes and documents patient referrals and schedules procedures/diagnostic testing per department procedure.
- Receives, rotates and stores general lab supplies. Performs inventory and stocks assigned specimen collection material.
- Maintains good housekeeping of lab outpatient area and conducts special cleaning of work areas.
- Performs clerical duties:
- Receives, logs, and insures appropriate disposition of specimens, requisitions and charges.
- Receives, sorts and insures appropriate disposition of reports.
- Receives and assists patients, visitors and physicians with specimen collection, orders, inquiries and reports.
- Answers telephone, relays messages and communicates results.
- Utilizes office equipment, computers, printers, etc. to accomplish duties.
