Flight Nurse Job Description
The Flight Nurse plays a crucial role in transporting critically ill or injured patients via air to and from medical facilities, as well as scene calls. With a strong emphasis on safety and effective patient care, the Flight Nurse must assess each situation, collaborate with air and ground teams, and maintain required certifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess situations to determine the best course of action for supporting, monitoring, and treating patients in critical care scenarios.
- Utilize critical thinking skills to manage critically ill or injured adult or pediatric patients and support physicians' orders.
- Provide a safe, clean, and well-stocked aircraft environment, maintaining regular equipment and base checks, and complying with safety standards and briefings.
- Collaborate effectively with air and ground teams, dispatch, flight crews, facilities, and partners through professional communication.
- Maintain accurate company and regulatory documentation and records, adhering to protocols during shift changes.
Qualifications:
- At least three years of experience in emergency or adult critical care settings as a licensed RN.
- Current RN license in states served by the assigned area.
- EMT Certification in state(s) where required.
- BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP required prior to flight status (NRP certification provided during New Hire Training).
- Trauma Certification where required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior flight experience.
- Instructor certifications in BLS, ACLS, PALS/PEPP, ITLS/PHTLS.
