Job Overview:
Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the BCGC bar & kitchen; providing excellent service, preparing, cooking and presenting food and beverages according to standards and expectations while maintaining a safe, clean, and sanitary work area.
Role Accountabilities & Expectations:
- Provide friendly, courteous service to all customers in a manner that guarantees they intend to return.
- Smile at all customers you encounter.
- Ensure every item is prepared according to specifications and customers' requests.
- Coordinate food orders to ensure timely and efficient delivery to every table.
- Conduct final quality check on food and beverages before serving to the customers; maintain specifications by only serving items that are made properly.
- Remove gloves and aprons before entering the front of the house.
- Communicate with and establish rapport with all customers; get to know customer by name. Make customers happy by exceeding service expectations.
- Notify a manager of any customer complaints.
- Take orders and accurately enter into POS.
- Practice proper cash handling procedures.
- Handle product properly according to Food Handlers and OLCC procedures always.
- Follow proper hand washing methods.
- Keep food out of the Temperature Danger Zone.
- Adhere to Critical Temperatures for items.
- Receive, rotate, label and store products according to FIFO.
- Avoid cross-contamination.
- Adhere to standards of handling and holding F&B products.
- Verify all customers that purchase alcohol are at least 21 years of age; ensure alcohol is consumed in designated area only.
- Utilize tools properly.
- Possess full knowledge of food and beverage products served and utilize suggestive selling techniques.
- Use knives, scales and thermometers properly.
- Use appropriate colored cutting boards.
- Use appropriate measuring tools.
- Read and follow all recipes.
- Accurately record waste.
- Prioritize and complete all assigned station tasks, side work and station set up for maximum productivity and efficiency.
- Complete all opening, running and closing duties.
- Ensure all materials and supplies are available.
- Maintain a clean appearance and workstation and assist in overall kitchen cleanliness.
- Keep the floor clean and free of debris.
- Keep the station stocked throughout and after shift, efficiently break down workstation at the end of the shift.
- Ask for help whenever it is needed.
- Ensure a harassment-free environment through proper personal conduct.
- Use respectful language with customers, staff members and managers always.
- Respond appropriately in emergency situations to avoid danger to self, staff members and customers; always remain calm.
- Notify manager/supervisor of low inventory.
- Understand, comply with and enforce all company policies and procedures.
- Understand and utilize all safety sanitation practices as defined in the safety program; report any incidents.
- Assist management in training new staff members within the department when applicable.
- May be required to work early mornings, evenings, holidays, and weekends as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Required Skills:
- High school degree or GED preferred.
- One (1) to three (3) years' experience bartending and/or cooking in a high-volume Food and Beverage environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must be at least the minimum age required to serve alcohol as determined by applicable state law.
- Able to free-pour to recipe and specification, extensive knowledge of mixed cocktails and frozen drinks.
- Have knowledge of cooking techniques utilized in the scope of prep/line cook positions; culinary degree or equivalent preferred.
- Good reading, writing, mathematical and communication skills.
- Able to interact professionally with other departments and outside contacts.
- Able to complete a heavy workload and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
- Good judgement and decision-making abilities.
- Health permit/food safety and Alcohol Awareness. Team members are required to obtain cards individually and provide proof of possession prior to the first day of employment subject to local US laws.
- Must remain in compliance with drug free workplace policies.
- Reliable transportation.
Physical Requirements (as required by OSHA and ADA):
- Ability to work weekends, holidays and evening hours as business demands.
- Must be able to spend 100% of working time standing, walking and reaching.
- Pushing, pulling and lifting objects from a lower to higher position or moving objects horizontally, from position to position.
- Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces.
- Climbing and ascending or descending ladders, stairs and ramps.
- Must be able to carry loads greater than 35 pounds and exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently.
- Hearing sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
- Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
