Medcentrek is seeking a Histology Technician to work at the VA Maine Healthcare System (1 VA Center, Augusta, ME 04330) on a 6 month to 1 year contract.
Position Description:
Services Provided/Scope/Purpose:
Technical Requirements: The Contractor’s personnel may work in multiple areas of the lab as determined by the needs of the service at that time and shall be responsible for providing the following service
Histotechnologist
· Responsible for grossing tissue specimens, accessioning them into the computer system, embedding, cutting, staining and cover-slipping tissue. Also prepares special stains for tissue per request of pathologists
· Assists the pathologists in the cutting of surgical, frozen sections, and possibly autopsies. Processes specimens using equipment, instruments, or techniques to prepare them for specific analysis, controls physical conditions, responds to time factors to ensure that the physiological state-of-the-art specimen is maintained.
· May serve as the back-up morgue assistant in the absence of the contract diener. This includes basic assistance of the pathologist during autopsies to include, but not limited to, identification, set up, general assistance, body closure, and clean up.
· As part of safety, positively identifies patients prior to sample collection and samples prior to testing or aliquoting.
· As part of safety and safeguards electronic and paper patient information. Independently tests, evaluates, documents, and reports patient testing and Quality Control (QC); identifies, documents, and resolves any collection, processing, testing or reporting issues. Assures patient-centered care and provides service in a manner that is professional and will avoid complaints from all stakeholders and customers.
Qualifications:
· The Histotechnologist assigned by the Contractor to perform the services covered by this contract must hold a bachelors degree and have three (3) years of recent Histology and Cytology experience.
Work Schedule:
Histology Technicians will be working a Monday – Friday 6:00 am – 2:00 pm shift ONLY (no Nights, Weekends, or Holidays)
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $31.00 - $36.00 per hour
