Job Description
The Emergency Vehicle Operator (EVO) is an entry-level position responsible for providing safe and timely transportation for patients, ensuring their secure transfer to higher-level care facilities or other destinations. This role may also include assisting team members with basic medical tasks necessary to stabilize ill or injured patients.
Ideal candidates should have a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and a strong commitment to serving the community. The position is based in Jackson, AL, but team members are expected to respond to and transport patients throughout the service area.
Essential Functions and Duties
- Safely operate an emergency vehicle.
- Assess the safety and hazards at the scene of an emergency.
- Control the hazards at an emergency scene as trained and directed.
- Lift and move patients.
- Maintain the condition of the emergency response vehicle.
- Maintain, clean, and restock emergency supplies and equipment.
- Openly communicate with the public (patient, patient’s friends and family, etc.), government (police, utilities, etc.), and private sector (doctors, nurses, etc.) in an effective and efficient manner conducive to excellent patient advocacy.
- Effectively interact with individuals, families, and patients from a diverse group of cultures and backgrounds.
- Evaluate and interpret information and make decisions with a partner.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Valid Driver's License
- Clean driving record over the past 3 years
- No major traffic accidents in the past 5 years
- Healthcare or rescue service background (Preferred)
- Pre-existing BLS-CPR license (Preferred)
- The desire, eligibility, and ability to obtain Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification and licensure within 1-year from date of hire (paid by company)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Knowledge of appropriate safety equipment when exposure to infectious organisms, agents, and toxic chemicals.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, staff, physicians, support agencies, vendors, as well as onboard personal, and clinics.
- Critical thinking skills with the ability to evaluate and interpret information and make decisions with a partner.
- Ability to remain calm during stressful situations.

Physical Demands
- Ability to lift a minimum of 150 lbs. independently, more with assistance.
