Job Description:
To meet EMS system goals, the Emergency Medical Dispatcher is required to act as a facilitator in providing the necessary assistance to the requesting party. This includes obtaining all appropriate information and dispatching MedEvac units as per protocol. Specific responsibilities include the dispatch of, and communication with all MedEvac units, record keeping, as well as clerical support duties. All responsibilities shall be carried out with a positive customer service approach.
Responsibilities:
1. Professional:
The Emergency Medical Dispatcher functions as a professional representative of MedEvac and shall support and uphold the mission, goals, objectives and policies of the company at all times. The Emergency Medical Dispatcher will at all times maintain a positive customer service approach.
- Maintains a professional and neat appearance while working and representing MedEvac.
- Maintains a cooperative, team oriented working relationship with co-workers.
- Works and communicates effectively.
2. Dispatch and Communications:
- Responds to all requests by phone and / or radio.
- Dispatches the closest unit to request.
- Consults supervision as needed about unusual circumstances and guidance regarding policy decisions.
3. Record Keeping and Documentation:
- Accurately and thoroughly maintain and complete all necessary records.
- Document unusual operational matters on an incident report as warranted.
- Sort and process paperwork in accordance with the billing department guidelines.
4. Other Duties:
- Participate in company marketing and public relations functions as directed.
- Maintain a neat and clean work area.
- Perform other job duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Proficient knowledge of medical terminology.
- Strength in positive interpersonal communications.
- Must demonstrate a professional appearance and manner.
- Superior organizational, phone, radio and computer skills.
- Must have the ability to multi-task.
- Must have weekday and weekend daylight and overnight shift availability.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Emergency Operations Center dispatching experience.
- Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) training certification.
- EMS, Fire or Law Enforcement background experience.
