POSITION SUMMARY: The Cake Decorator is responsible for decorating cakes, cupcakes and cookies, most importantly establishing and maintaining customer relations. All duties will be performed in a manner that will help achieve the Medford Cooperative’s mission and goals.
Principal Duties
- The Cake Decorate will assist customers in a positive manner that promotes a favorable image of the cooperative and serves the needs of the customer. The primary responsibilities of the position include:
- Decorates cakes, cupcakes, and message cookies, utilizing various piping skills (for example, lines, letters, figures, and flowers) and using icing bags, cutters, frostings, and miscellaneous hand tools.
- Maintains the bakery area in accordance with company policies and procedures by arranging and organizing merchandise/supplies, identifying shrink and damages, and ensuring a safe work environment.
- Maintains merchandise presentation in the bakery area by stocking and rotating merchandise, removing damaged or out-of-date goods, setting up, cleaning, and organizing product displays, signing and pricing merchandise appropriately.
- Provides customer service by acknowledging the customer, identifying customer needs, assisting with purchasing decisions, locating merchandise, resolving customer issues and concerns, and promoting products and services, while maintaining a safe shopping environment.
- Receives and stocks merchandise/supplies from distribution centers and suppliers and organizes and maintains the bakery area by following company procedures, utilizing equipment appropriately, merchandising, and completing and retaining required paperwork, logs, and other documentation.
- Prepares bakery department merchandise based on daily production needs by decorating and properly wrapping, dating, labeling, and storing merchandise.
- Follows company policies and procedures for preparing, handling, packaging, labeling, and storing food, operating and sanitizing food-related equipment, stocking and displaying/merchandising food products, and maintaining and cleaning the bakery department.
- Reports to work at the assigned/scheduled time.
- Performs other duties as required by the Management.
Education and Experience Required:
- Previous experience in retail but not required.
Skills and Abilities Required:
- Ability to operate bakery equipment.
- Must be able to follow verbal and written directions.
- Knowledgeable about company’s products and services, and customer-related policies.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of ten (10) pounds frequently and up to twenty-five (25) pounds occasionally.
- Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling and stooping.
- Grasps, turns, and manipulates objects of varying size and weight, requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
- Visually reads and verifies information, often in small print.
- Adapt to changing work demands. Work on top priorities first. Stay focused on own work when faced with change or difficulties. Stay open to and learn from assignments and feedback.
- Must be patient and helpful to exceed the customer’s expectations.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $15.00 per hour
Expected hours: 36 – 42 per week
