This position provides assistance to the Archivist for services and operations regarding the MSUM Archives (University Archives and Northwest Minnesota Historical Center).
Duties may include but are not limited to the following. Assist the archivist with arranging new acquisitions by researching and surveying the records;
forming a processing plan with created series; rehousing materials into archival folders and boxes while conducting basic preservation techniques.
- Create and update finding aids by following Describing Archives : A Content Standard (DACS). Provide customer services for those who use the MSUM Archives physically and digitally by greeting visitors, assisting with registration, and answering directional / reference questions.
- Assist patrons with using the online guide to the Northwest Minnesota Historical Center collections and the descriptive inventories of the University Archives and retrieve materials for use.
Minimum Qualifications Ability to : Operate personal computers, use various software and web-based applications, and other office equipment sufficient to locate catalog information, word-process documents, complete forms, and prepare reports.
Communicate effectively orally and in writing sufficient to determine and respond to the informational needs of clients of varied educational levels and backgrounds;
to train, direct and evaluate work of student workers / interns; and to assist the professional library staff to maintain the library collection according to library policies and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications B.A. or B.S degree Experience working in an archives and / or archival course work Experience working in a library environment Experience supervising student employees Strong organization skills Additional Requirements The successful candidate must be able to lawfully accept employment in the United States by the day employment begins.
