HIRING A SENIOR LOW VOLTAGE DESIGNER IN HOUSTON
ACCOUNTABILITYPerform design duties on all projects while working with other designers and BIM design staff to deliver a quality product on schedule. Interacts with other designers and clients as authorized by Project Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSLead the design and development of low voltage systems, including AV, IT, and Security, for both new construction and renovation projectsPrepare detailed drawings, specifications, and system schematics for low voltage systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and client requirementsServe as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, and other stakeholders on low voltage system design mattersAttend client meetings, conduct site visits, and present design proposals and solutionsCollaborate closely with clients to understand their needs and ensure that designs meet their requirements and expectationsWork closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and project managers to integrate low voltage systems seamlessly into overall project designsEnsure that all low voltage system designs are properly coordinated with other building systems (electrical, mechanical, etc.) to avoid conflicts and ensure optimal system performanceMonitor project progress, ensuring that designs are implemented as planned and within project timelinesEnsure all designs meet relevant codes, regulations, and best practices in the AV, IT, and Security domainsReview and verify installation plans and contractor submittals to ensure they meet design specificationsMentor junior designers and provide training on best practices, emerging technologies, and industry standards in an established team-oriented environmentPerform additional assignments as requested / needed
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCEMinimum of 5-7 years of experience in low voltage system design with a focus on AV, IT, and Security within the AEC industry, field installation experience is a plusExperience working directly with clients to define needs and develop tailored solutionsFamiliarity with industry standards, codes, and regulations for AV, IT, and Security design (e.g., NEC, TIA / EIA, ANSI, BICSI, etc.)Proficient knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD application software and MS OfficeIn-depth knowledge of AV, IT, and Security system design, including equipment selection, cabling infrastructure, and integration with building management systemsStrong communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly and effectively to clients, stakeholders, and team membersProven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver high-quality results on time and within budgetIndustry certifications such as BICSI RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer), CTS (Certified Technology Specialist), or similar credentials
