Looking for an experienced Substation Designer to drive Physical and Controls designs for electrical Substations throughout Design and Construction phases (both new construction and upgrades / retrofits)Will oversee design of high and medium voltage electrical Substations, with some occasional Extra High Voltage (EHV) projectsMust be experienced with Transformers, Breakers, Switches, and Relays; Relay knowledge should include Line Distance, Feeder, and OvercurrentProficiency in AutoCAD is essentialThis position is Remote with occasional travel to Phoenix, AZ
Key Responsibilities :
Independently drive Physical and Controls designs for electrical Substations throughout Design and Construction phases (both new construction and upgrades / retrofits)Oversee design of high and medium voltage electrical Substations, with some occasional Extra High Voltage (EHV) projectsAbility to handle up to 90% of the design work independently for maintenance projects, with initial requirements provided by engineersOversee the production of one-line diagrams, conceptual designs, plan-section drawings, foundation, grounding, specifications, schematics, wiring diagrams, and any additional drawings needed to complete a comprehensive set of construction documents to build Substations of varying sizes and voltagesWork amongst a cross-discipline design team, owners, and contractors to develop drawings and specificationsCoordinate with external vendors, design firms, internal design teams, and manufacturersDevelop estimates and refine scope of work from sponsors
Qualifications :
5 years of Substation Physical and Controls design experience for both maintenance and new capital projectsMust be experienced with Transformers, Breakers, Switches, and Relays; Relay knowledge should include Line Distance, Feeder, and OvercurrentUnderstanding Zones of Protection, including the differences between Bus Differential and Transformer Differential RelaysProficiency in AutoCAD is essentialExperience with Meridian by SolidCAD is preferredFamiliarity with Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) standards, particularly those related to Substation Design, specifically IEEE Standard P80 as a grounding standardFamiliarity with the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) is preferredBachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related discipline is preferred; equivalent real-world work experience will be considered
