Position Overview:
We are seeking a talented, driven, and innovative GIS Engineer to join the GIS Solutions Group in our Business Engineering Department. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in Geographic information systems, spatial analytics, geospatial development, and a strong interest in telecommunications systems and fiber network design. You will work closely with our engineering team to develop and maintain geospatial models, performing analysis, optimize network design, and support various telecommunications projects such as grant-funded Fiber to the Home (FTTX) initiatives which including planning, design, and execution. Position Responsibilities:
- Monitor daily performance of our SPATIAL environment.
- Analyze daily performance issues related to network connection, Oracle database, SPATIALplatforms.
- Responsible for daily postings to ensure database integrity and prevent problems that result in loss of designer/user productivity.
- Schedule and perform software maintenance by working with IT and DBA staff.
- Design and implement GIS-based tools for telecommunications and business projects, including fiber and Hybrid Fiber-Coaxial (HFC) networks, with a focus on fiber-to-the-home (FTTX) systems.
- Collaborate on grant-funded planning and design projects aimed at expanding FTTH networks to underserved areas, including the preparation of GIS data, documentation, and submissions for funding proposals.
- Manage and maintain GIS databases, shapefiles, and spatial data models to ensure accurate representation of our network, ensuring compliance with grant reporting requirements.
- Develop geospatial models and plans for FTTX network deployment, optimizing routes, analyzing buildout costs, and ensuring compliance with funding guidelines.
- Document and manage enterprise fiber networks, ensuring both geographic path storage and logical route diagramming.
- Provide technical support for closest facility analysis, batch site processing, geometric algorithm development, and other spatial analysis needs within the organization.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, field technicians, desktop survey, and engineers, to ensure efficient project execution, particularly on grant-funded projects.
- Ensure alignment with regulatory submissions and reporting standards (FCC and other regulatory bodies) for grant-funded FTTH projects, including geospatial and financial documentation.
- Support efforts of digital twin network representation between various platforms.
- Assist with custom user interfaces and tool development that will be integrated into internal applications for streamlined operations.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geospatial Sciences, Information Systems, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline required, or experience in lieu of.
- 3 years of experience in GIS, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Strong knowledge of geospatial concepts, spatial data analysis, and relational databases.
- Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, and related GIS/engineering tools.
- Experience with Python and SQL for analysis and tool development.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Familiarity with telecommunications networks, including fiber, FTTH systems, and RF signal propagation.
- Strong understanding of spatial data models, including mdsys.sdo_geometry, geodatabase, WKT, and arcPy.
- Experience in supporting grant-funded projects, particularly in the planning, design, and execution of FTTH networks.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Experience Builder, FME, and AutoCAD.
- Knowledge of programming languages such as Python, SQL, JavaScript, and R.
- Knowledge of discrete mathematics, graph theory, geospatial software development, FCC regulatory processes, and telecommunications systems.
- Esri Technical Certification (e.g., ArcGIS Desktop Associate, ArcGIS Pro).
- GIS Professional (GISP) Certification from the GIS Certification Institute (GISCI).
