What You Will Do
- Cover local sporting events in Berks County and the surrounding area in southeastern Pennsylvania
- Write engaging sports stories for both print and online platforms
- Generate compelling story ideas and cultivate sources to deliver unique and engaging sports content
- Gather information through interviews, research, and investigative efforts
- Input game results and statistics
- Copy edit articles and take photos
- Post stories to the Reading Eagle website and social media platforms
- Degree in journalism or communications (required)
- Strong reporting, writing, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of sports statistics and social media
- Ability to meet deadlines and work evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Excellent language skills and understanding of digital news gathering
- Strong knowledge of grammar, spelling, headlines, and photography
- Understanding of AP style and local style guidelines
- Ability to work effectively with colleagues and resolve conflicts professionally
- Sensitivity to ethical standards and libel law
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required
