Position: Accountant
Position Overview: The Accountant develops accounting policies and oversees all financial procedures of the company. The Accountant will monitor the company’s financial status, review quarterly and annual budgets and manage accounting transactions. The Accountant must have in-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and experience with risk management. The Accountant will comply with accounting regulations, maximize profits, and mitigate risks. This position reports directly to the President.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Maximizes return on financial assets by establishing financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems.
- Achieves budget objectives by scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
- Ensure all payments are completed on time (including accounts payable and bank deposits).
- Review budget versus actuals monthly.
- Analyze cost and profits.
- Set and track financial KPIs.
- Build risk assessment models.
- Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date filing system for financial area of the business.
- Monitors and confirms financial condition by conducting audits and providing information to external auditors.
- Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, filing financial reports, and advising management on needed actions.
- Participation in state and national associations/conventions to insure effective and efficient business operations in alignment with industry standards.
- Assists in insuring that adequate planning occurs to meet the needs and appropriate response to the financial and personnel related matters of company operation.
- Protects operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential.
- Perform other duties as deemed appropriate by management.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma required.
- BSc or MSc in Accounting or Finance required.
- CPA or CMA preferred.
- Experience with financial reporting requirements preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personality:
- Work experience as an Accountant or similar role.
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, procedures, and legislation.
- Hands-on experience with general ledger accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
- Experience with cash management and risk assessment.
- Good knowledge of accounting software, QuickBooks preferred.
- Attention to detail and ability to work with tight deadlines.
- Possess strong problem-solving skills.
- Able to conduct meetings as appropriate to job descriptions.
