Wheelchair Van Driver

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: Starts at $18.00

• Full time weekday hours, 7 am to 5 pm
• No nights or weekends.
• Must be willing to work some overtime, our drivers average about 45 hours a week.
• Our drivers take the company vehicles home at night, and begin their workday in their own driveway.
• Complete paid training.

Must have a valid NYS driver's license to apply. A NYS CDL class C with P endorsement is required before starting the job, and can be obtained through the DMV with a written test after being offered a job.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provides transportation services to assigned clients.
• Notifies the dispatcher of any changes or unexpected delays.
• Ensures the vehicle is safe, clean, functional and in sanitary condition at all times. Notifies Supervisor immediately if a problem occurs that can not be corrected by the Van Driver that may jeopardize well being of the individual.
• Ensures that all passengers wear seatbelts and uses appropriate company approved equipment to securely tie-down wheelchairs (if applicable)
• Notifies dispatcher of any problems with equipment or seatbelts that could jeopardize safety.
• Performs an overall assessment of each call to ensure the call can be handled safely. Informs the dispatcher immediately if it is determined that the call cannot be safely executed e.g. ice covered steps or other hazards.
• Contacts dispatcher if additional personnel are needed to assist in safely getting the client into the van. As the clients who use MediCab are in need of wheelchair services, informs the dispatcher if the client elects to walk.
• Completes Daily Driver Report including morning mileage as well as any noted concerns with the vehicle. As applies completes other required funding paperwork e.g. ACCESS VR and follows company procedures related to this.
• Reports all accidents and other unusual circumstances according to policy and procedure.
• Maintains a professional and courteous demeanor at all times both on radio communications and in person with the clients, staff and facilities.
• Ensures client information is kept confidential and adheres to all company policies, procedures and expectations.
• Represents Medicab in a professional manner in full uniform with identification badge at all times.
