What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ophthalmology Technician Clinics position at Medical Associates of Navarro County?
Under the supervision of the Clinic supervisor and under the general direction of the provider, the Ophthalmology Technician is expected to make independent judgments to insure that the requirements of the Ophthalmology services are met. The Ophthalmology Tech is responsible for performing all duties in an efficient and cost effective manner. The Ophthalmology Tech performs all services as they may relate to patient care/treatment with consideration for the age/condition of the patient. The employee performs additional tasks/activities as assigned. The employee may be required to flex/change schedule and work overtime at the discretion of the clinic.
Education: High school graduate or GED
Experience: Minimum of two years’ experience in a hospital or clinic setting is required.
Licenses/Certificates: Ophthalmology Technician Certificate preferred, but not required
Duties:
- Performs preliminary screening examinations for physician review including,
- Prepares patient for examination and explains procedures.
- Observes patient and machine(s) during procedure, reports unusual occurrences, records patient’s condition and responds to the patient’s needs.
- Prepares room, equipment, and materials needed for patient exams.
- Assists the provider in measuring clinical acuity of each patient via various testing procedures.
- Assists the provider with the diagnosis, treatment, and preventions of ocular diseases.
- Instruct patients on the proper techniques used in caring for, inserting and wearing contact lenses.
- Explains diagnostic procedures, methods of treatment and discharge instructions to patient and family.
- Schedules and prepares proper paperwork for outpatient surgery.
- Cleans and restocks exam/treatment rooms between procedures.
- Following clinic policies for infection control in handling and disposing of infectious/hazardous waste materials.
- Responds to and screens telephone calls for referral.
- Triages patients to ensure productive departmental flow
- Ensures patient chart entries are made accurately and in a timely manner.
- Assists with the preparation of supplies and equipment and aiding the physician during treatment, examination and testing of patients.
- Notifies patients of test results and follow-up appointments.
- Keeping an accurate and up-to-date inventory of medications and supplies.
