POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Responsible for supervision and developing and managing all facets of pharmacy operations at Neighborhood Improvement Project (NIP) clinic(s); secures licensure from the State of Georgia and federal agencies; serves as NIP representative in all matters regarding pharmaceutical services; administers state and federal programs for medication delivery and ensures that the department operates within the guidelines of state and federal regulations; Oversees of the pharmacy assistance programs and serves as pharmacy benefits manager; Manages the acquisition, storage, distribution, and handling of purchased pharmaceuticals for all centers; and Monitors and inspects contracted pharmacy inventory and operations at other corporate facilities, and all academic affiliations.
DETAILED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Directly supervise all support staff including supervision, discipline and daily activities.
- In cooperation with Pharmacy/Therapeutics committee, establish and implement methods to monitor patient medication usage for appropriateness and compliance.
- Establish and provide billing services to insure NIP receives maximum reimbursement for the services and supplies provided by the Pharmacy. This shall include adjudicated billings of all third party insurers and electronic claims submission for Medicaid and Medicare services.
- Through the Pharmacy/Therapeutics Committee, develop and maintain a Pharmacy Policies and Procedures Manual and the Centers' official Drug Formulary.
- Maintain all data, records, files and information as required by NIP, Federal and State laws and regulations, other licensing entities, funding and reimbursement/billing organizations.
- Provide accurate and timely reports including, but not limited to, daily drug and prescriptions utilization, Daily and Monthly Prescription Logs, and Daily Controlled substances Log.
- Cooperate with other management functions and participate in the management operation of NIP, as required. This includes management assignments and the participation on ad hoc committees including, but not limited to, Quality Assessment and Improvement, and Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committees.
- Assures that all pharmacy operations and activities, including licensure, are in accordance with the directives of NIP and all applicable Federal and State of Georgia laws and regulations.
- Maintain professional licenses through continuing education.
- Supervise patient assistance program/sample program.
OTHER PHARMACIST DUTIES
- Reviews prescriptions and prepares medications for dispensing.
- Routinely check for patient allergies
- Monitor and verify patient medication regimens as necessary.
- Counsels pharmacy patients on medication drug interactions, side effects, dosage and storage of pharmaceuticals.
- Fill/complete orders for all NIP offices.
- Monitor and report all inventory levels and order points including
- Monitor, report, and remove from stock all outdated pharmaceuticals monthly.
- Participate in the recording, maintenance and production of all required daily and monthly logs and reports, as required.
- Maintain professional license through continuing education.
- Monitor specialized clinics, as required (i.e., diabetes, Coumadin).
- Works in teams with other medical providers providing consultation for specific disease states.
- Maintains established procedures of quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and HIPPA
- Accesses computer for data entry, pharmacy files, patient charts, and inventory.
- Incorporates cutting edge technology with electronic medical records, electronic prescriptions, etc. as available.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Complete knowledge and understanding of profession.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to deal with patients, peers, and management.
- Knowledge of basic management and business principles.
- Knowledge of Pharmacy Adjudicating system.
- Effective problem solving skills.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- BS in Pharmacy, Pharm D. preferred
- Licensure as Georgia Registered Pharmacist
- At least three years of Pharmacy experience,
- Teaching or experience in an academic environment
