What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Med/Surg/ICU position at Medical Center Barbour?
The Department Director is under the supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer, is responsible for the nursing care of patients seeking Acute Medical Care Service. She/he should have a working knowledge and practice of the nursing process and demonstrate skill in techniques of good patient care. She/he must be willing to serve as a resource person for fellow employees and possess an understanding that each assigned area must work as a part of the team. Assumes responsibility for the inpatient acute care program planning for the departments in collaboration with nursing schools, medical staff and administrative staff.
Education: A graduate of an approved school of nursing. BSN preferred.
Experience: A minimum of 3 years of nursing experience in acute care &/or critical care nursing. Previous supervisory/management experience preferred.
Licenses/Certificates: Current Alabama Registered Nurse License. CPR, ACLS required within six months of hire.
1. Oversee the day-to-day management of the Department.
2. Develop and upgrade policy and procedures.
3. Develop and coordinate clinical program and operational activities on a 24-hour basis.
4. Work in conjunction with the Director of Education to evaluate staff needs concerning education/competencies.
5. To serve as a cohesive influence for constructive team building in the department and in the hospital infrastructure.
