What are the responsibilities and job description for the Clinical Laboratory Assistant position at Medical Center Hospital?
Position Summary:
The Clinical Laboratory Assistant will perform tasks to assist laboratory technical staff in processing specimens and perform specimen processing in a safe, accurate, and professional manner. The assistant prepares various specimens for analysis while maintaining positive patient identification throughout the preparation process. The assistant also performs order entry and retrieves and verifies patient collection data and patient special notations using appropriate sources. This position may also perform multiple functions, such as clerical work and waived laboratory testing.
Education:
High School graduate or equivalent required, and two (2) years of healthcare experience preferred. Certification as a Medical Laboratory Assistant (CMLA) is not required but preferred.
Job Knowledge:
A thorough understanding of Clinical Laboratory procedures is not required but preferred. Must satisfactorily complete and maintain compliance with the approved mandatory shipping course regarding hazardous shipments within one (1) month of hire. Must satisfactorily complete a competency assessment by the Section Supervisor or designee within 3 months of hire.
