I. Position Summary:
Administers physical therapy treatments under the direct supervision of a physical therapist, transports patients as necessary, carries out departmental infection control, assists in the delivery of clerical work, and assists therapists as necessary.
II. Position Relationships:
A. Responsible to: Director of PM&R
All Therapists and Licensed Assistants
B. Workers Supervised: None
C. Interrelationships: Constant contact with patients, families,
nursing services, therapists, and various departmental and hospital employees. Occasional contact with physicians.
III. Responsibilities and Authorities:
A. Performs other duties as assigned by the department's management staff.
B. As patient care and/or Hospital need dictates, both the assigned shift and work station may be changed by the department.
C. Participates in and promotes the “I CARE” service philosophy of Integrity, Customer Centered, Accountability, Respect and Excellence.
D. Performs essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
E. Transfers patients within to and from the dept.
F. Carries out treatment responsibilities as needed with patient safety as the top concern. Does not use damaged or malfunctioning equipment. Follows proper lifting and patient transfer techniques and utilizes appropriate minimal lift equipment.
G. Prepares patient and equipment for treatment.
H. Administers prescribed physical therapy treatments under the direct supervision of the PT and/or LPTA.
I. Infection control of the department and equipment.
J. Attend inservices as necessary and take part in department training sessions.
K. Assisting with inventory control of supplies.
L. Participates in rotating to necessary areas, setting will include but not limited to outpatient, wound care, rehab, acute care, and long-term acute care, to provide treatment coverage to patients where needed.
M. Participates in restorative treatment as outlined by the evaluation therapist.
IV. Performance Factors Used to Evaluate Employee:

B. Demonstrates independence in performing daily duties and does so in a timely manner.
C. Demonstrates proficiency in performing basic modalities and infection control duties.
D. Demonstrates good communication skills and follows appropriate channels of communication.
E. Demonstrates knowledge of department equipment and procedures.
F. Ability to work well as a team member.
V. Qualifications:
A. Education:
High School diploma or equivalent.
B. Training and Experience:
Current BLS Certification through the American Heart Association upon hire or transfer to department.
C. Job Knowledge:
Must be willing to learn basic modalities and equipment procedures. Must be comfortable working with direct patient care.
VI. Unusual Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
A. Constant standing and walking.
B. Heavy lifting of patient and equipment.
C. Possible exposure to infectious diseases or radiation.
