Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Medical Billing and Coding Specialist to join our healthcare team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing patient billing information, coding medical records, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations. You will play a crucial part in the revenue cycle management process, working closely with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients to facilitate accurate billing and collections.
Duties
- Accurately code medical diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10 and other coding systems.
- Review and verify patient medical records to ensure completeness and accuracy of information.
- Process insurance claims and follow up on outstanding claims to ensure timely payment.
- Maintain knowledge of current medical terminology, billing practices, and coding guidelines.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to resolve discrepancies in billing and coding issues.
- Manage medical collection processes while adhering to ethical standards and regulations.
- Stay updated on changes in healthcare regulations, coding standards, and billing practices.
- Assist in the training of new staff members on medical billing and coding procedures as needed.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in medical billing, coding, or a related field is preferred.
- Familiarity with DRG (Diagnosis Related Group) systems is a plus.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology and healthcare documentation practices.
- Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems for managing patient information.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical skills for accurate data entry.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Strong communication skills for effective interaction with patients, providers, and insurance representatives.
