Position Description:

The Department of Pediatrics at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) and Children’s Wisconsin (CW), seeks a psychologist specializing in the area of Sports Medicine Psychology to join our expanding Pediatric Psychology and Developmental Medicine Section. Currently, the hospital has launched a comprehensive focus on mental and behavioral health across the system, emphasizing the role of mental health in the overall health of children and families.

Opportunity Highlights:

  • This position involves outpatient clinical care for patients referred with sport-related and/or orthopaedic surgery needs such as injury recovery, concussion management, and pain management as well as parent support, community programming in schools, sports leagues, and other outside agencies.
  • Although clinical and educational activities are the primary focus of the positions, research and other scholarly activity will be encouraged, and opportunities exist for collaborative research with established researchers.
  • Applicants will be supported to pursue additional training to obtain a Certified Mental Performance Training certification through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology to become a certified sport psychologist.

Children’s Wisconsin and Children’s Specialty Group

Children’s Wisconsin is the state’s only independent health care system dedicated solely to the health and well-being of children. With more than 1.3 million annual connections with kids and families statewide, Children’s provides a wide range of care and support — everything from routine care to lifesaving advances and treatment options, foster care and adoption services, child advocacy, and provides an insurance plan.

Children’s and its joint venture with the Medical College of Wisconsin – the Children’s Specialty Group (CSG) - are the largest providers of pediatric healthcare in the state, serving the children and families of Wisconsin with the highest level of care through their American College of Surgeons Level I Children’s Surgery Verification Center, Level I Pediatric Trauma Center, Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence, 72-bed Level IV NICU, Level IV Epilepsy Center, and a 72-bed PICU. In 2021-2022, CW and CSG had six specialties ranked by US News & World Report: cancer; cardiology and heart surgery; gastroenterology and GI surgery; neurology and neurosurgery; orthopedics; and pulmonology. With over 70 specialties and 675 providers, CSG providers had 220,000 outpatient visits at 13 regional care sites, 67,000 emergency department/trauma center visits, and over 9,000 admissions.

Position Requirements:

  • PhD or PsyD in an APA approved psychology program.
  • Specialized training, including fellowship in child/adolescent psychology is preferred.
  • Licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Psychologist in the State of Wisconsin.
  • Experience Previous experience within an Orthopaedic/Sports Medicine Clinic is preferred, but not required.
  • Collaborative and engaged in working as part of an interdisciplinary team within an inpatient consultation-liaison service.

Rank upon appointment will be commensurate with experience.
