Position Description :

The Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR) and the Data Science Institute (DSI) at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), are seeking a senior clinical informatician to jointly serve as a Senior Scientific Director in CIBMTR's research program and as Associate Director of Clinical Informatics in the Data Science Institute.

As a CIBMTR Scientific Director, the successful candidate will be expected to devote at least 70% of his or her effort towards strategic and research responsibilities in clinical informatics and is expected to compete for external funding including from the NIH and foundations. Their role will directly support innovation and activities related to Data, Infrastructure and Processes across the entire data pipeline in CIBMTR including data capture, quality, and support of the center's network. The top priority for this position will be driving the strategic growth of the CIBMTR informatics infrastructure, providing scientific leadership and support to the data operations and IT staff of CIBMTR. The scientific director will partner closely with Scientific and Operational leaders on both the MCW and NMDP campuses.

As the Associate Director of Clinical Informatics in the Data Science Institute will devote at least 30% of his or her effort and will assist with the development of a strategic plan for clinical informatics research. This plan can leverage existing CIBMTR expertise and have CIBMTR as a priority focus but should also develop generalizable solutions such as HL7-FHIR related data capture from health systems and health information exchanges. The individual will serve as key liaison between the academic and healthcare system in informatics innovation and its application. A key role will also to interface with informatics activity in the MCW Cancer Center, including the Integrated Cancer Data Repository and relevant shared resources.

CIBMTR

The CIBMTR is a research collaboration between the National Marrow Donor Program® (NMDP) / Be The Match® and MCW. The CIBMTR collaborates with the global scientific community to advance HCT and cellular therapy research worldwide to increase survival and enrich quality of life for patients. The CIBMTR facilitates critical observational and interventional research through scientific and statistical expertise, a large network of transplant centers, a unique and extensive clinical outcomes database and a large repository of donor and recipient biospecimens. Its longitudinal database currently has information for more than 700,000 patients and receives data for an additional 20-25,000 new patients annually. CIBMTR collaborates with the pharmaceutical and biotech industry through a corporate membership and research service fulfillment portfolio. Currently greater than 80 projects are ongoing in collaboration with more than 40 industry teams. Services provided include scientific expertise, data management and statistical support aligned with use of its real-world data registry supporting impactful industry sponsored projects, including the post-approval safety studies (PASS) for CAR-T and other novel therapies. In addition, CIBMTR facilitates industry sponsorship of its annual scientific meeting.

Scientific oversight of CIBMTR activities is provided by 14 MD / PhD Scientific Directors who are faculty in the Departments of either Pediatrics or Medicine at MCW, as well as 7 MD / PhD-equivalent Scientific Directors on the NMDP CIBMTR campus. Statistical support is provided by over 20 MS statisticians over both campuses and nine faculty PhD statisticians at MCW. An additional ~200 staff provide support for all aspects of CIBMTR's data collection and research activities. Scientific Directors work closely with Operational Directors to provide direction and subject matter expertise. They also work closely with the scientific community, industry, patients, caregivers and other stakeholders to further the mission of the CIBMTR.

Data Science Institute

The Data Science Institute is focused on advancing data science across MCW and with its health system partners. The ultimate goal is to excel in data science and informatics to become a prominent leader nationally and worldwide by developing innovative data science approaches and integrating them into the four pillars of MCW. The mission of the Data Science Institute (DSI) is to advance data science as a unique scientific discipline while actively supporting research across MCW. Leveraging the extensive expertise within MCW and its health system partners in fields such as bioinformatics, medical informatics, genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, large database analyses, biostatistics, geospatial analysis, and artificial intelligence, the DSI seeks to foster innovation and collaboration.

Position Requirements :

PhD, MD or equivalent doctoral degree is required.

Candidates should have evidence of actively pursuing funding for work related to clinical informatics, with experience in this area.

Candidates are not required to have a clinical background or have specific experience in hematopoietic (HCT), cellular (CT), or gene therapy (GT) outcomes, however this type of experience may be beneficial for the role. Clinical effort at MCW is possible and candidates are encouraged to submit their application or reach out to discuss further if this is desired.

The successful candidate will be able to pursue research in their area of expertise related to CIBMTR's and DSI's scope of activities and mission and is expected to participate in all research functions of the organization.

A history of prior work with the CIBMTR is also desirable but not required.
