Position Description:

The Medical College of Wisconsin's Department of OBGYN is seeking a Certified Nurse Midwife (APRN) to provide primary or specialty medical care within defined scope of practice under the supervision of a licensed physician and in accordance with MCW/FMLH/CHW policies and procedures. The APRN will be responsible for the physical, mental, and emotional care of their patients during delivery. The CNM will provide prenatal and postnatal education, examine the patient during the course of the pregnancy, and assist patients in creating birth plans. The APRN will also ensure the health and well-being of the newborn and mother during delivery.

The Ideal Candidate will be a Women's Health experienced RN with Professionalism, strong communication skills, and collegiality, wanting to be part of a thriving and very collaborative academic practice at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW). Areas of responsibility will include, but not be limited to providing direct patient care to in a blended setting.

In this role you will,

  • Perform gynecological exams
  • Educate patients on health, nutrition, and family planning
  • Perform tests to obtain information about patients' medical conditions
  • Provide full scope prenatal and postpartum care in accordance with ACOG standards.
  • Counsel expectant mothers on birthing plans, including hospital care, and others plans of care
  • Provide emotional care for mothers during birth
  • Arrange prenatal planning and care for mothers
  • Prepare for birthing by following all health and safety standards
  • Coach mother through the birthing process
  • Perform deliveries and assist caesareans
  • Tend to the health and well-being of both the fetus and mother during the process
  • Assist physicians in caring for the mother during complicated births
  • Study patient history and health assessments
  • Monitor patient postpartum and be available for questions or concerns
  • Participate in research and further educational opportunities
  • Perform CPR or other emergency measures if needed
  • Perform newborn circumcision as needed
  • Perform other duties as needed as part of the team in the Birth Center
  • Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements, including CMS, and The Joint Commission.
  • Evaluates quality outcomes for the patients under the care of OB/GYN programs through participation in the development of quality indicators and outcomes dashboard.

Core Advanced Practice Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive, and psychosocial status.
  • Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents information
  • Write accurate and timely progress notes, procedure notes, and/or admission and transfer orders
  • Develop pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.
  • Monitor effectiveness of plan of care
  • Educate patients on disease and treatment plans.
  • Perform procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed.
  • Document within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.
  • Collaborate and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.
  • Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.
  • Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements, including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Joint Commission.
  • Acquires information on the most current development and trends in the Physician Assistant field and/or Nurse Practitioner field, through educational programs, in-services, professional associates, and current literature.

Full-time role with expectations for coverage during core business hours and flexibility required as necessary to accommodate business needs

  • Zero years of experienced required
  • Women's Health experience preferred

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited School of Nursing and Midwifery and certification from the American Midwifery Certification Board
