Position Description:

Purpose

The Research Administrator is responsible for centralization of pediatric research operations and research administration for the Pediatric Academic Enterprise under the oversight of the Pediatric Academic Administrator within the Shared MCW CSG Administrative Services department.

This role encompasses oversight and support across a wide range of research areas, including but not limited to clinical research, basic science, translational research, community-based studies, and population health research. By centralizing resources and infrastructure, this position ensures equitable access to research support for all pediatric divisions, enabling a collaborative environment that fosters innovation and sustainability across diverse research disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • This role will be responsible for leading the support services in the areas of research operations and research administration for all pediatric divisions.

  • Build and maintain a centralized research services and staffing infrastructure and hierarchy that provides support to 30 pediatric divisions across 15 MCW departments.

  • Oversight of pediatric grants development, grants management and research operation teams.

  • Facilitate the transition of research support staff under the Shared MCW CSG Administrative Services department to enhance oversight, efficiency, and career development opportunities.

  • Provide oversight to research leaders and teams including program development, staffing, resource management, research operations and regulatory compliance.

  • Evaluate and guide research projects and activities to ensure that facilities, procedures, processes, and operations reinforce MCW and CRI's research standards, which includes reporting status and other critical indicators.

  • Interface between division leaders, PIs, research staff, grants development and grants management teams to develop an intake process for shared research services and working with CRI leadership to prioritize projects.

  • Assist in shaping policy that shapes overall direction of the pediatric research enterprise in collaboration with key stakeholders.

  • Advocate for investigators and study teams to remove barriers, develop services, leverage skills and strengths, exploit opportunities, and improve the overall institutional research experience in innovative and thoughtful ways, negotiating for resources as needed.

  • Maintains awareness of extramural awards spending in order to recommend actions that will impact the optimization and utilization of research resources.

  • Organize shared services support functions for divisions and fellow managers and work to ensure the flow of high-quality management information and the smooth execution of work.

  • Track research KPIs/productivity measures for investigators and research programs.

  • Oversee annual research budgeting process in collaboration with the financial business manager, grants management administrator and division administrators.

  • Provide leadership and supervision to ensure quality research services are provided by a competent staff by setting high, challenging standards of performance and giving honest and timely feedback.

  • Communicate productivity ideas and programs throughout research operations where applicable and act as a communication channel between units to ensure productivity and other value-added ideas are implemented.

  • Coordinate and lead special projects as directed the CRI and Shared MCW/CSG Leadership

  • Lead the development of new process and manage operations on cross-functional teams and task forces where appropriate.

  • Apply working knowledge of operations and problem-solving techniques, team concepts, financial analysis, technical expertise, and personnel management to act as a change agent.

  • Maintains current knowledge of innovative operations techniques and evaluation techniques to identify improvement opportunities.

  • Assist in shaping policies and procedures to communicate operations standards focusing on strategic development.

  • Demonstrates a commitment to continuous improvement.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Schedule:
Full-time role with expectations for coverage during core business hours or as needed to accommodate business needs.

Minimum Required Education: Bachelor's degree Minimum
Required Experience: 10 years

Preferred Education: MBA and/or other related advanced degree

Field: Business Administration or Research Administration
