Position Description:
The Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin (F & MCW) Transplant Service Line and the MCW Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology are seeking a Board Certified / Board Eligible transplant hepatologist to serve as the medical director and lead our liver transplant hepatology team. This is a leadership position with opportunity to enhance one’s own academic career while mentoring and supporting the academic career of others in a vibrant and growing academic transplant center and expansive transplant service line.
The medical director of liver transplantation is a critically important physician leader in our center who works collaboratively with the surgical director of liver transplantation and in a well-integrated manner with leadership of the transplant service line to ensure efficient and effective clinical operations of the team. In addition, the medical director will help lead the program’s Accountable Care Team, and successfully engage providers and our clinical teams in advancing care delivery improvements and measured unit performance. Effective, bi-directional communication and engagement of our provider teams is a critical element of this key role.

Opportunity
- Full-time faculty position within the MCW Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and the Department of Medicine in conjunction with the F & MCW Transplant Service Line
- Opportunity to build a practice in transplant hepatology and general hepatology at Froedtert Hospital, and various other outreach facilities
- Interest in leading outreach clinic efforts in collaboration with the current 5 transplant hepatologists to help grow and expand hepatology access for patients.
- Collaborate with the hepatologists, 5 hepatology APPs, gastroenterologists and medical/surgical transplant faculty to expand our existing transplant hepatology program.
- Contribute to the clinical education of fellows, residents, medical students, and other trainees
- Participate in the academic, research and educational missions of the institution
- Strong inpatient and outpatient APP’s, nutritional and pharmacy support. serves as a consultant on general and transplant hepatology patients
- Full advanced endoscopy support including ERCP and EUS services available as well as GI endoscopy support.
- New state-of-the-art Digestive Disease Center opened in early 2024 including opportunity to perform liver biopsies
- Fully accredited ACGME Gastroenterology & Hepatology Fellowship program with 13 fellows with intent to initiatet a Transplant Hepatology Fellowship Program. Fellows allotted to Transplant/Hepatology consultative service and round with faculty 7 days a week. This is a large and vibrant training program with transplant hepatology/general hepatology call coverage provided by fellows under faculty supervision and fellow endoscopy call coverage of hepatology/transplant hepatology patients supervised by the gastroenterology faculty.
- Robust support for clinical research
- Focus on a patient-centered approach to delivery of care and engage in a climate of inquiry, quality, and safety
- Completion of an Internal Medicine residency, Gastroenterology Fellowship and either eligible for or having completed the CAQ for Transplant Hepatology
- Post-training experience not required; Eligible for full, unrestricted licensure in Wisconsin
- Meets all UNOS primary physician qualifications for liver transplantation
- Salary, research support, and benefits will be commensurate with rank and experience, and the candidate will hold appropriate academic rank in the Medical College of Wisconsin School of Medicine.
