Medical Education & Research Institute (MERI) is a non-profit organization which supports the advancement of medicine by providing bio-skills lab environments essential to medical and surgical training for healthcare professionals.

Our central U.S. location in Memphis, TN as well as our mobile support ability allow us to facilitate state-of-the-art, hands-on training and educational events for physicians, nurses, and other medical professionals from across the country and around the world. Our unique ability to coordinate all aspects of medical training is made possible in part by our exclusive partnership with the Genesis Legacy Whole Body Donation Foundation.

In order to better accommodate training in the evolving medical industry, we are currently expanding our Anatomical department team.  We are seeking adventurous and energetic individuals interested in an exciting opportunity to work with the MERI's Anatomical team to support leading healthcare professionals and innovators on the cutting edge of medical science.

As an Anatomical Specialist I, your role is to perform various functions involved with daily operations of the Anatomical dept.  This includes ensuring human cadaveric specimens are properly received, handled, processed, allocated, and effectively utilized for educational courses. This position will also provide lab support for educational courses when needed.

This position reports to the Anatomical Department Manager.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Regularly receive new human donor specimens and thoroughly process into inventory system, documenting anatomical features that are relevant to specimen selection for various courses.
  • Operate C-arm (X-ray) machine for the processing of new donors and while assisting on courses.
  • Draw blood samples and order serology testing on all received donors.
  • Physically lift and move cadaveric specimens to various designated areas to ensure proper tissue condition for course preparation.
  • Ensure any tissue being transported or distributed is prepared according to proper regulatory standards.
  • Transport and deliver appropriate specimens via MERI vehicles to local bio skills labs as needed.
  • Prepare specimens for courses as directed (basic exposure, positioning, draping, etc.).
  • Perform basic to advanced disarticulations, harvests, and dissections under proper supervision.
  • Assist in the loading and unloading of anatomical specimens and lab equipment from MERI transport vehicles in support of off-site educational courses.
  • Assist with setup, breakdown, and execution of educational courses as needed
  • Perform routine inspection and care of specimens to ensure tissue quality.
  • Inspect and assess specimens upon return to MERI and prepare properly for further utilization and/or needs.
  • Clean, sterilize, restock, and repackage surgical instrumentation and medical equipment in preparation of future use.
  • Build an understanding and knowledge of AATB regulatory standards to ensure compliance within the anatomical department for acquisition, storage, preparation, usage, distribution and final disposition.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

    EDUCATION:
        High school diploma or equivalent

    EXPERIENCE:
        
No prior experience required, but some clinical experience preferred

    SKILLS:

  • Ability to read and understand documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, general public and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to use common sense understanding in order to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few known variables in situations of a routine nature.
  • Ability to fulfill all essential job functions as listed with or without reasonable accommodations.

    Highly repetitive type work which requires the concentrated and non-diversified physical demands of the employee.

    While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk or hear; occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The     employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds; regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth     perception; and ability to adjust focus.

BENEFITS

   This is a Level I (entry level) position. SCHEDULE

    Normal work schedule is 8:30am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday.  Some OT and scheduling outside of these days/times may be required.
