Critical Care Air Ambulance Medical Biller

Job Overview
An Air Ambulance Medical Biller is responsible for handling the billing processes for air ambulance services, ensuring the accurate and timely submission of claims to insurance companies, government programs (such as Medicare or Medicaid), and other third-party payers. This role involves working closely with medical codes, healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients to resolve billing issues and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations.
Medical Biller Duties
- Collect and manage accounts
- Insurance verification
- Effectively manage aging of receivables
- Follow up with insurance to determine if a claim is accepted or rejected
- Investigate rejected claims and correct errors
- Resolve claim edit errors, such as missing patient demographics, coding and insurance information errors
- Identify and apply corrective action
- Determine cause of errors and make recommendations for improving the process towards effort of reduce pending unbilled charges
- Follow claims through approval or denial process with insurance company
- Contact insurance companies to contest denied claims
- Assists in patient collection letter inquiries and calls
- Written correspondence of appeal on claims denied by an insurance carrier
- Meet regularly with supervisor to discuss challenges or billing obstacles as well as to provide status of outstanding aging reports
- Ensure proper coding
- Follow all safe workplace practices
- Dedicated to the values of patient safety and quality
- Reviews patient registration, insurance, and third-party payments in the medical billing system
- Confirms charges are entered into the medical billing system accurately and correctly for reimbursement
- Communicate Client/Vendor/Payor trends to Supervisor as applicable
- Ability to handle multiple priorities at one time, ability to work independently with minimum of supervision and ability to manage and prioritize work queues and paperwork accurately under pressure of deadlines
- Participates in staff meetings, trainings, and conference calls as requested and/or required
- Maintains strict patient and provider confidentiality in compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and guidelines for release of information
- Ensure a current understanding of medical terminology and coding
- Other tasks as necessary
Qualifications Required
High School Diploma or equivalent certificate
4 years of Medical Coding and Billing Experience
Strong familiarity with air ambulance coding and claim submission
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
Strong writing skills
Preferred Attributes
Knowledge of air ambulance operations and billing nuances specific to air transport and emergency medical services
Familiarity with industry-standard billing practices and payer rules for emergency transportation
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $17.00 - $21.00 per hour
