Job Description: Medical Assistant and Front Desk Specialist (Dual Role)
Podiatry Office
The Medical Assistant and Front Desk Specialist provides essential clinical and administrative support in a podiatry practice. This dual-role position is integral to maintaining seamless operations by assisting the physician with in-office procedures while managing front desk responsibilities such as scheduling, data entry, and patient record maintenance.
Required Skills and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- At least 6 months of customer service experience
- Previous healthcare experience preferred (podiatry experience is a plus)
- Knowledge of health insurance processes, including pre-authorization, insurance verification, medical terminology, CPT codes, and ICD codes, preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and Google Workspace
- Strong organizational, multitasking, and communication skills
- Team-oriented mindset with flexibility and a willingness to learn
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail and professionalism
- Familiarity with HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality standards
- Ability to exercise discretion, good judgment, and provide excellent customer service
Essential Responsibilities
Clinical Duties:
- Greet patients and prepare them for podiatric exams or treatments
- Assist with minor in-office procedures (e.g., nail care, wart treatment, injections)
- Perform digital X-rays and radiography
- Set up and clean exam rooms, surgical instruments, and equipment
- Manage and dispense DME supplies (e.g., diabetic shoes, inserts)
- Collect patient vitals, update medical histories, and document notes in EMR
- Prepare lab specimens and coordinate lab pickups
- Assist with post-operative care, dressing changes, and patient follow-ups
Front Desk Duties:
- Answer incoming calls, schedule appointments, and handle inquiries
- Verify insurance eligibility and obtain necessary authorizations
- Collect payments for copays, deductibles, and outstanding balances
- Maintain and update patient records through data entry, scanning, and filing
- Reconcile daily transactions and prepare end-of-day reports
- Manage provider schedules and coordinate with patients for follow-ups
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, or kneel for extended periods
- Must lift up to 50 lbs and carry objects up to 25 lbs occasionally
- Repetitive hand motions, including typing and reaching overhead
- Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, cleaning solutions, and chemicals
- Specific vision abilities include depth perception, peripheral vision, and focus adjustment.
