Graystone Eye is an ophthalmology practice that was originally established as Harris, Foster and Lefler, PA, founded in 1969 by Drs. William Harris, Dr. Thomas Foster and Dr. Hampton Lefler.

Our highly trained team of eight board certified ophthalmologists and three board eligible physicians includes six fellowship trained sub-specialists. Our practice is proudly focused on the following services: comprehensive eye care, cataracts, glaucoma, refractive procedures (iLASIK), corneal disorders, retina disorders, pediatric vision disorders, oculo-facial plastics (functional and aesthetic services) and optical. Job Description

SUMMARY

Greets patients and records information into computer for patient care by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Answers incoming calls, makes appointments, re-schedules appointments, transfers calls, pages physicians as needed, screens calls and records messages for physicians and clinical teams.
  • Assists patients with any concerns, directing them in the area needed.
  • Collects demographic and insurance information, enters referrals as needed at time of check in and collects money owed from previous visits.  Collects required co pays at the time of check in.
  • Prints encounter forms, demand statements and appointment lists.
  • Collects required money and makes follow up appointments at the time of check out.
  • Posts charges into practice system.
  • Obtains patient signatures for required documentation.
  • Enters data information needed to process patient’s chart and charges using a web-based program.
  • Cross trained as needed to assist in all areas of front office.
  • Any duties deemed necessary in the front office.

 

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Individuals must have knowledge of medical insurance, able to read an insurance card, excellent communication and organizational skills, proficient on most software applications in a windows environment and be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  Ability to type 25 words per minute with an error rate less than 2%.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate and percentage.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
