The Medical Preparatory Academy of Rhode Island, a new public charter school opening in Fall 2025, is seeking a dynamic, dedicated Director of Special Education. We are currently in our planning year, preparing to welcome our first cohort of students in grades 6 and 7. As a founding member of our team, you will play a critical role in shaping our special education program to support student success.
Position Overview:
The primary role of the Director of Special Education is to hold the overall responsibility for special education services. S/he will assist with ensuring IDEA compliance, facilitating Evaluation Team Meetings, participating in IEP and RTI meetings for students with special education, reviewing and/or revising IEPs, and working collaboratively with the school’s administrative team to improve the achievement of all students with special education. The Director of Special Education will perform duties within the framework of Rhode Island General Law and the regulations of the Rhode Island Department of Education.
The Director of Special Education will serve a dual role in Year 1 (2025-2026), functioning as both the special education administrator and a special education teacher. Starting in Year 2, this role will transition to a full-time special education administrative position.
