Description

Salary Range: Please note that the typical Hiring Range is $80,000 - $90,000 annually. Job offers within the range are based on relevant job qualifications and pay equity. 

The Philanthropy Specialist contributes to Medical Team International’s calling by building and managing a portfolio of annual and major donors. This role is a key member of the organization’s frontline fundraising team by building, managing and maturing strategic relationships with prospective and current donors with a focus on large annual gifts.

Medical Teams International holds strict child and vulnerable adult safeguarding principles and a zero-tolerance policy for misconduct related to sexual harassment, exploitation and abuse in the workplace and other places where the organization’s activities are rendered. Parallel to technical competence, recruitment & selection, hiring decisions will give due emphasis to assessing candidates’ eligibility thorough background checks, police clearance, and professional reference check processes. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Build and manage a portfolio of approximately 120-150 prospective and current donors by identifying, qualifying, cultivating, and soliciting annual donors with the capacity to give gifts ranging from $10,000 to $100,000 or greater 
  • Collaborate closely with the Seattle area Development team to achieve individual, team, and department revenue goals. 
  • Identify, qualify, and cultivate donors who have the potential to make planned giving and estate bequest commitments. 
  • Coordinate closely with the Engagement Team and other internal stakeholders to plan, organize, and execute events and engagement opportunities to connect with existing donors and generate new prospects and leads. 
  • Invite, attend, cultivate, and steward donors through Medical Teams’ event and engagement opportunities. 
  • Follow-up and qualify new and prospective donors after organizational events. 
  •  As an expert on Medical Teams’ national and global programs, implementing projects, and fundraising priorities, communicate them to donors in clear, succinct, and inspiring ways. 
  • Track and manage information and strategies pertaining to relationship management, including timely and accurate documentation of conversations and contacts with prospects and donors, in Salesforce. 
  • Ensure donors experience high quality interactions that foster long-term engagement and financial investment in the Calling Medical Teams. 
  • Serve as a resource for other Advancement team members. 
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including CFR and Global Programs colleagues, to ensure accuracy of information for compelling asks and proposals. 
  • Develop and maintain meaningful, trusted relationships with Global Programs to better communicate organizational successes and needs to prospects and donors.  

Other Duties: 

  • Support safeguarding program participants and employees through promoting an environment of awareness and upholding the code of conduct provisions of Medical Teams Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse & Harassment, Child & Vulnerable Adult protection, and harassment-free workplace policies. Incumbents will remain alert and responsive to any child and adult safeguarding risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills which will enable you to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the child and adult safeguarding policy and procedures, and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with the Safeguarding code of conduct and behavior expectations. 
  • Utilize volunteers when appropriate. 
  • Additional duties as assigned. 

Qualifications


EDUCATION, LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS 

Required: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, business or nonprofit management, marketing, communication or related field. Or any equivalent combination of education and relevant experience, substituting on a year-for-year basis.  
  • Valid driver’s license 

Preferred:  

  • CFRE or other fundraising-related certifications 
  • Valid passport  

EXPERIENCE 

Required: 

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in major gift fundraising or related experience 

Preferred:  

  • 6 or more years’ experience in major gift fundraising or related experience  

  • Experience working in an international non-profit  

  • Experience working in a non-profit focused on healthcare, global health, access to care, or similar  

  • Knowledge of or experience working in global health programming. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES 

Knowledge: 

  • Knowledge of international humanitarian issues, Christian NGOs, and global health programs 
  • Advanced knowledge of fundraising best practices to move donors from qualification to direct solicitation in support of a fundraising campaign or annual appeal  
  • Knowledge of current trends in donor interests   
  • Extensive knowledge of Seattle, state, regional, and national philanthropic environments 

Skills: 

  • Strong business acumen with the ability to monitor, compile and analyze data to guide decision making 
  • Highly effective at securing one-on-one meetings with donors/customers and prospects in a nonprofit or sales context 
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with diverse personalities in a tactful, mature, and professional manner 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Excellent presentation skills 
  • Excellent listening skills and willingness to serve others 
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with a strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize, collaborate and delegate 
  • Skilled at preparing donors for international travel to visit program sites, including, confirming they are prepared to handle various emergency situations and circumstances that may occur while traveling abroad 
  • Skilled in using Microsoft Office 365 suite of applications including Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 
  • Experience with Salesforce

  • Ability to travel in the U.S. and internationally up to 10% of the time.
