Join a team thats Changing Whats Possible - The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is seeking a board certified or board eligible Adult Cardiothoracic surgeon to join their growing team in charming Greenwood, SC. The chosen candidate will play a key role in educating future leaders in cardiac surgery, as well as broadening surgical access throughout the state of South Carolina. This position would be hired through MUSC, and the individual would work at Self Regional in Greenwood, SC.
The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery is the only team in South Carolina with the expertise to perform complex procedures such as heart transplants, robotic valve surgery, and aortic surgeries. Recognized by U.S. News & World Report as high performing in aortic valve and heart bypass surgeries, the division also holds a Blue Distinction Center designation for Adult Heart Transplant. As the 5th largest LVAD center and 13th largest heart transplant center in the U.S., and under the leadership of Dr. Marc R. Katz, the division made history by performing South Carolina's first robotically assisted, FDA-approved thoracic mitral valve surgery.
Self Regional Healthcare is widely recognized for providing high quality cardiovascular care, from complex interventions that require cardiothoracic surgery, to diagnosing, treating and managing heart and vascular disease. Self Regionals Heart and Vascular Center provides a broad range of advanced heart care ranging from prevention and emergency cardiac care, to open heart surgery and rehabilitation. The Heart Failure Clinic at Self Regional has been recognized by the American Heart Associations Get With the Guidelines based on the clinics quality and outcomes in stroke care and heart failure. Also, its nationally accredited Chest Pain Center ensures that the team of emergency physicians, cardiologists, critical care nurses, paramedics and cardiac catheterization lab follow national guidelines to diagnose and quickly provide lifesaving treatment for patients experiencing potential cardiac life-threatening events.
We are seeking candidates with :
- MD or DO with board certification or eligibility in Thoracic Surgery
- Eligibility for a South Carolina Medical License
- Academic orientation, interest in teaching, and passion for outreach
- Preference for applicants with a demonstrated ability to design and carry out clinical or basic science research
